You can probably build this yourself for much less

Sounds like my experiences have been the exception, but I've had Dell's for years and have had mostly reasonable experiences with their support. Also, when ever they haven't been able to resolve over the phone (or through text) they've been pretty good about sending a tech to my home. My experience is generally with laptops though, since I build my own towers.

For that much money... you can build something better but not with that cool looking case.

Not only that, but Alienware is not the premier gaming pc manufacturer that it used to be. Since Dell purchased it several years ago, the quality of the Alienware products have gone down sharply.

Actual value of the parts (including chassis and OS)? About $950-$1000.
Also note that the processor is the locked model, not the K version. This is a huge waste of money. Most of these processors can be overclocked to 3.8 ghz just with software and using the stock heatsink, and the price difference is usually under $50.
