Isn't Macy's part of Robinson-May now?
February 28, 2005
In a deal that promises to reshape the shopping landscape in San Diego County and nationwide, the owner of Macy's will acquire the parent of Robinsons-May for about $11 billion. (http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/business/20050228-9999-1n28merger.html)
The boards of Federated Department Stores, which owns Macy's and Bloomingdale's, and the May Department Stores, which owns Robinsons-May and several other chains, signed an agreement yesterday afternoon, according to several news services. The companies are expected to announce the blockbuster deal today.
The merger creates a department store behemoth with about 1,000 outlets and some of the best-known names in retail, including Marshall Field's, Filene's and Lord & Taylor. In San Diego County, Macy's operates seven department stores and one home store. Robinsons-May has seven department stores, as well as 10 After Hours Formalwear outlets and three David's Bridal stores.
