Contest period is June 5, 2006 through June 30, 2006. Each week during the contest period a new road trip "Journey" will start each Monday during the contest period. Each Journey will begin on Monday at 9:00am EST and end Thursday night at 11:59pm EST. The winners will be announced on Friday of each week.
Rule #5: How to Play & Win
Each week Budget will present a journey on the UpYourBudget blog.
The object is to be the first contestant to guess and submit the exact number of total miles for the journey. In the event that the exact number of miles is not submitted, the first submission closest to the exact number of total miles without going over will win.
To accurately calculate the total miles, contestants will need to figure out the exact course of the journey. There are 3 points each day for four days, 12 points per week. The total miles (no fractions of miles, use whole miles only, see example below) are determined by calculating the mileage from point to point each day and adding these together to get the total mileage of the week's journey.
Each daily guess should be for the total mileage of the entire weekly journey.
Budget will post 3 clues daily, which will help contestants plot the course and calculate the total weekly mileage. The first three contestants to submit closest to the exact total miles without going over, by Thursday 11:59PM ET will win first, second and third prize in the order the answers were submitted. Limit one prize per person over entire contest period.
All comments, uploads and track-backs to the UpYourBudget.com blog, will be moderated; Budget reserves the right to approve or decline any posts in its sole discretion. All decisions on posting are final.
For Example: If there are 3 points of destination for each day (12 points total for the week), take the first day's points of destination: Point 1, Point 2 and Point 3 as an example.
The distance in miles between Point 1 and Point 2 is 25.73 miles -- using just the whole miles, the mileage will be 25 miles.
The distance from Point 2 to point 3 is 16.35 miles -- 16 whole miles.
Add the total number of miles for that day together: 25 + 16 = 41. Do the same thing for the next three days to determine the total mileage of the week's journey.
CONSUMER DISCLOSURE: Prizes: Total value of all cash prizes is $160,000 USD. Four (4) First place prizes - $25,000 each; Four (4) Second place prizes - $10,000 each, and Four (4) Third place prizes - $5,000 each. One First, Second and Third place prize will be awarded each week. Taxes and other expenses are the sole responsibility of the winners. Each winner will be issued an IRS 1099 tax form following the receipt of prize, for the value of the prize. Any prizes not awarded will be forfeited and be owned by Budget.
