Most of these in my area are not what they used to be. Almost everyone now requires a minimum $35 purchase and an 18% gratuity on the total check before discount. So to use these still costs between 20 and 30 dollars. $4 for the certificate, plus at least the $10 difference between 25 and 35 (which we usually end up with more), and then then the 18% tip, it's at least $20 total. We always tip on the whole check (assuming service is good), but apparently some people don't. There used to be a lot of restaurants that didn't have the $35 minimum and that makes a difference. These are still a decent deal, but not as good as they once were.

Last year there was 3 or 4 nice restaurants that
used these coupons...... now we only have one
where 2 people can have a nice lunch that costs
about $25 total (excluding tip) and after $10
discount coupon is about $8 each.

Still a good deal even if you can only go once a month.

You should always at least tip 18% when you go out to eat if the service is good.

I do, but if you get crappy service, you should not be forced to tip 18% A couple of places even require 20%.

I agree if the service is crappy you should not be forced to tip 18% but if the service was good, tipping 15% to 20% is an expected part of dining out.
