groove1 07-25-2007, 11:50 AM For services that require a cc# I HIGHLY recommend using a virtual cc# if your card issuer offers tham or if you can get a visa/mc gift card with a low or no fee, use that. That way they won't contiinue to charge your account when you tell them to cancel as these subscription services are notorious for doing.
phishyist 07-25-2007, 12:15 PM I just used the "newhome2007" promo code for a free one month trial. After thats over I'll give this one a try.
Thanks
Moronik 07-25-2007, 12:44 PM yup, can't get mine to work either - maybe because I just cancelled it within the week
yynbc 07-25-2007, 12:52 PM Blockbuster online...
Use different Credit card and email address to create another new account. Blockbuster doesn't care if the shipping address is the same.
borntabbal 07-25-2007, 03:01 PM Why doesn't Blockbuster or Netflix have a video game subscription service yet? LAME.
SharonL 07-25-2007, 03:52 PM I had to use a new email account to get it to work but I was able to sign up again for a free month. Thanks! :bigok:
apple 07-26-2007, 04:53 AM is anyone know when will the code expire? Thanks
phairphair 07-26-2007, 08:54 AM I wouldn't use Blockbuster if their plan was $5 a month.
After enduring years of horrible service at local Blockbusters, the arrival of Netflix was like a breath of fresh air. Apparently lots of other folks felt the same, because Blockbuster began losing customers at an unprecedented rate.
Prior to the arrival of Netflix, they were already struggling financially even with their high rental rates, punative late fees and ridiculously priced snacks. The only solution left to them after it became apparent Netflix was here to stay was to steal their business model.
Are we to believe that Blockbuster can emulate all of Netflix's services AND maintain a huge network of brick-and-mortar stores AND remain profitable? Of course not. They continue to hemorrhage cash, hoping to drive Netflix out of business.
I'm going to choose to reward the inventiveness of Netflix and allow Blockbuster to (hopefully) feel the pain of years of bad service and selection. It would be a real shame if Blockbuster's cynical, predatory tactics were successful. Once Netflix was gone Blockbuster's prices would skyrocket.
phairphair 07-26-2007, 09:09 AM Here's a blog by an ex-Blockbuster employee explaining why they're terrible. Pay special attention to #2:

yynbc 07-26-2007, 10:01 AM True...but Netflix THROTTLE your movies....if you rental too much or return too fast.
Personal record with BlockBuster 2 week free rental....24 movies (with instore exhcnage). I can get more but I want to cancel it before the time is up.
kingjman 07-26-2007, 11:03 AM .....and I just got this email from netflix.......
Great news! We're lowering the price of your 4 DVDs out at-a-time
plan to $16.99 a month plus applicable taxes. Now you can enjoy
Netflix for less!
You don't need to do a thing - except pay less. Your membership will
automatically move to the lower price and be reflected in your
Membership Terms and Details. The lower price will take effect
beginning with your statement on or after July 23, 2007.
Your $16.99 plan not only gives you 4 DVDs out at-a-time but you can
also watch 17 hours of movies and TV episodes instantly on your PC
each month - for no additional charge.
Enjoy!
Your friends at Netflix
....and yes thats 4 out at a time, you get rewarded for being a loyal customer with netflix....that's one idea Blockbuster forgot to steal from the competition...I'll be glad when BB goes out of business so FAIR competition can return..they have never wanted to compete, they want to kill other local rental shops..BB has always played dirty, why do they sometimes offer free rentals only for netflix tabs, not any others? and the cycle has repeated a few times with them....when their doing poor, they offer deals galore...as soon as they think they've won, their prices skyrocket..
groove1 07-26-2007, 11:46 AM Another factor in netflix being succesful was the rise in gas prices. Some people have to drive several miles to a video store each way to rent and return. Netflix is delivered right to your door, which saves gas money. This whole country is based on people stealing other peoples' ideas and perfecting them....like the windows OS you are likely using (though I could be wrong about that).
phairphair 07-26-2007, 01:06 PM This whole country is based on people stealing other peoples' ideas and perfecting them....
I think you have the U.S. confused with Japan and China. Our country is most definitely not based on stealing other peoples ideas.
Land, maybe...but our ideas mostly get emulated by others.
phairphair 07-26-2007, 01:09 PM Kingjman: I didn't get that offer from Netflix. Do you currently have a 3 at a time plan? Or did they just lower your cost for the 4 at a time?
kingjman 07-27-2007, 09:18 AM we have always been on the original 4 out plan they started with, there was only 1 plan, no options, all or nothing ..then they changed to 3 out, but left existing customers with 4 for the price of 3..since the change we have always paid for 3 out but stayed on 4 out..the odd thing i noticed, we only get 17hrs of internet movies a month like the 3 out plan instead of the 24hrs new 4 out subs get...still a great deal!
exqsite2005 07-29-2007, 09:27 PM I have tried Netflex and Blockbuster on-line several times using different e-mail addresses. I prefer Blockbuster. You can swich your movies if you want at the store, which will give you lots more movies than Netflex. I have never had a problem cancelling at Blockbuster. :)
