Notice the link goes to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). They have a long standing feud with KFC. Seems like a scam to me, especially since KFC doesn't even list the item in their menu.

No this is not a scam. These were introduced a few days ago in Canada. They don't have them in the U.S. though.

that's cool that they have a veggie option at kfc now! so they don't have this in california yet? only in canada?

If you are ever curious as to what veggie/faux/fake chicken can taste like, you should try Boca Chik'n Nuggets. They're actually pretty good and taste like regular chicken nuggets.

PETA has been trying to get KFC to make more humane efforts. The Canadian sector of KFC is being more cooperative and actually agreed to offer a vegetarian sandwich.

Looks like it's the real deal, alright. However, it isn't 100% vegetarian since it's cooked in the same fryers as the chicken.
