they been doing this for a while, gotta be careful though, the person testing it doesn't always know about cars.............
I found it is easier to buy an OBDC-II diagnostic reader and do it myself. The Autozone thing is really great, since most other shops in Utah charge about $120 to do the same thing.

you can also google the check engine codes. I found that with my Dodge Dakota, if I move the key three times from off to run, the engine code will show up on the digital odometer. Then google the code to find out whats wrong.
Found out my error code was for a slow intake leak, which ended up being a poor design on the gas cap. It rusted from the inside, so a $10 Autozone gas cap was all it took to shut off my light. Easier and cheaper than going to the mechanic.
Autozone will also clear the codes for you.
They could not read a 2005 Durango. Dodge told me that they need "special equipment" to read them. Suuuuuure you do!?!!?
in a way, whoever told you that is right. Some of the newer cars don't have the same port that the older ones do. Just like you can't take some older cars in.Originally Posted by Liquid_Squelch
depends on what type of computer it is using... i know that vw/audi odb2 systems need special readers to scan their bosch computers. now that mercedes got there hands into dodge, it wont be surprising to find some of the same electricals they have used or are using in their MBs.. so have ing special tools to read codes are not that far fetched...Originally Posted by Liquid_Squelch
