Great price on this. It will cost more than 85 cents shipped though. There is tax on it. Tax for my area was $1.51. So for me it is $2.36 shipped after rebate.

please don't buy this. I have one and it is NOT USB2.0- somehow I even doubt if it reaches theUSB1.1 standard. It is the slowest drive I have ever bought. If you want a quick usb drive, go with one of the major manufacturers.
aznyoshi707 may be right. there's 1 review at amazon with same complaint.

personally, I'm not sure I'd waste a buck for such a slow drive. Good if you just want to store stuff for later use, but not good for everyday use.
I got this drive the last time it was offered nearly FAR. It works just fine. It is most definetly not slow.
Just how do you measure the speed of a thumb drive anyway? Perhaps I'll measure just how long it takes to transfer, say, a 500Mb file, using a stopwatch.
Stay tuned.
I did a couple of write speed tests on 2 of my personal thumb drives.
For the SimpleTech I got 3.2Mb/s and for a Memorex I got 2.1 Mb/s. I used a file size of about 400,000Kb.
My results are similiar to what the computer mags and testing sites get when they benchmark various thumbdrives.
NOte that although the USB 2.0 spec calls for 480Mb/s, this is not what one gets with a thumb drive. From what I've read , typical write speeds are of the order of 0.9 to 4.0 Mb/s with a 500,000 Kb file.
IMO this SimpleTech is a good drive, it is not slow.
I have a 2GB version I use everyday with NO problems!!
I too have bought one and found it to be noticeably slow. Once it starts reading and writing its ok, but there's a long delay on the start of each file, independent of its size. In other words, copying one 48 meg file took maybe 5 seconds, but copying a 26 meg directory tree consisting of a bunch of small files took over 10 minutes before I stopped it out of frustration.
If I had to do it over again, I would have purchased a different usb drive.
