i m about to buy one. i like the "price". i dont think i can get a laser printer for $25 from elsewhere. anyone know about the quality of this product? price of cartridge?

Although searching froogle.com or pricegrabber may have better prices for the ink cartridge

We like the printer's crisp black text, which is free of choppy-edged curves and diagonals; however, the letters break up a bit on small fonts. Grayscale graphics suffer from a somewhat dotty texture and mild banding, but neither defect seriously detracts from print quality.

Among its drawbacks, the ML-1740 ships with a starter 1,000-page cartridge, so you'll soon have to replenish the toner. The standard 3,000-page cartridge costs about $80, or 2.7 cents per page--a little more than the toner-and-imaging drum for most monochrome printers.

That is a really good price, I just got one for myself. After I placed the order, I tried to Price match it to Newegg.com 74.95 (after Rabate) by calling 1800 3staples. They said that they don't match mail in rebates and also I had gotten a $15 discount on the order so they can't price macth because of that too.

I bought it when they had a mail-in rebate to make it $79 or something like that....even at that price, I'd call it a good deal....it works great - haven't had any problems with it, even when I have cats sleeping on top of it all the time and getting their hair in it....:D

The only drawback is the toner cartridge isn't cheap and the trial cartridge it comes with doesn't last forever....but if it's laser quality you want for a cheap price, I'd recommend.

I bought it when it when it was $79 also. However, i refill the cartridge with toner I buy from ebay, which is simple and cheap to do. For 25 dls it's a bargain. Text is very sharp, but black white and grey visuals are grainy when small.

Were you serious ? What zip code are you in ? I just tried on-line Staples one more time and even called 1-800-3STAPLE, both said "SOLD OUT" (Out of Stock).

Too bad this is out of stock at Staples

For those who live in the Bay Area, Fry's has this for $69.99 AR, $129.99 before rebates.

If Staples had it in stock, you could go to Fry's & pricematch to get 110% of the Price difference (110% of $30 = $33)

So it would be $129.99 - $33 - $60 MIR = $36.99.

Not as good as the Staples price, but i think the price would be considered acceptable for a laser printer.
