    Refurbished computers??

We are in the stage of hunting a new computer. My husband found a refurbished HP computer and is set on getting it. The term "refurbished" has me a bit concerned, despite the good ratings this product has received. Any opinion on this matter would be greatly appreciated by pink fish everywhere. TIA

Refurbished computers can go either way in my opinion. If it comes with a warranty in case something goes wrong, which is usually the case, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Often, refurbished computers are just returned by the user due to dissatisfaction or maybe something was wrong before it was refurbed. It doesn't necessarily mean it was used for years already. It might only have been used a few days.

My father has purchased several refurbished laptops which were older and probably used for quite some time. He has NOT had good luck with this. Due to the sensitive nature of the inside of a laptop, they just don't seem to last as long as a desktop. The refurbished laptops always die on him within a couple years.

It worries me that the warranty is only 3 months versus the year that you'd get with a brand new model. Although, what's a year in the life of a computer?

Is this from a major distributor? I kind of assumed it was an HP refurbished laptop. If it isn't certified by Dell, HP, or whoever manufactured it, I would not feel comfortable with it unless it was cheap enough I didn't care too much.

Three months is not very long. You'd be surprised what problems you might find 10 months after you purchase the computer.

It's certified by HP. I think my husband is cutting a corner he shouldn't. Just a gut feeling.

Certified is good. Do you happen to know when it was originally manufactured?

How much cheaper is this refurbished computer as compared to a brand new one? What reason does he give for wanting a refurbished pc? You can get great desktop system for around $500, so unless it is super cheap I myself wouldn't bother. Is there a link you can post for the one he is looking at?

Most are just returns, people bought it & found it wasn't what they wanted so they returned it. That 90 day guarantee is typical. New computers aren't that much more these days, so get a new one.

ok..convinced him out of the refurbished one. The one he was looking at was around $350 cheaper than the new version. We're getting this one.

Not quite as nice as the other model (I think)...but certainly a heck of a lot better than what we have now.

Rule: Now that I have posted the link and am getting ready to place the order, no one post that this computer sucks or it's "this much cheaper" somewhere else. There's no tax through amazon, and it comes with the year warranty also. Thanks for everyone's opinion. I knew I was right all along.

I think they want to take over the world.

Ten cores coming up soon, but most people are fine with just 2.

I know its too late now, but I have no problem with refurbs from Dell since they all come with one year warranties. Plus you can get amazing deals in the Dell Outlet when they have 15 and 20% off codes.

Good luck with your new computer.
