12/21/2012 - End of the World?

first of all, spoofee, what are you reading about the end of the world for in the middle of the night?? you should be looking at something a little lighter or you'll never get your sleep ;)
the original post was interesting- the bickering was a little annoying, but overall very informative. the idea of the earth ending is obviously a big deal, but if there's nothing we can do about it, i think the lesson is to fill your days with as much as you can and appreciate what you have while you still have it.
the references to noah's ark made me think about how God said he'd never flood the earth again- that next time he'd destroy it by fire. maybe there is something to this pole flipping stuff!

Cool, I better get to planning, thats right around the corner. I have to figure out where I would like to be when this happens. I should probably get the reservations made soon, I am sure alot of people will not want to be sitting home doing nothing when the world ends. Just charge the vacation on your CC, don't worry about paying for it, I am sure when the world ends no one will care if you pay or not. Anyone have any suggestions, maybe we can all meet up and have a tropical island Spoofee gathering. ;)

If you read "Worlds in Collision" (or was it "Earth in Upheaval) by Immanuel Velikovsky, he goes into an elaborate discussion on magnetic pole reversals in the distant historic past. Apparently pottery takes on the magnetic field alignments of the the earths field when it is fired. Pottery found in the Etruscan region of Italy has been studied and has been found to have the "wrong " magnetic orientation.

Either this pottery was fired when the poles were reversed or it somehow was made in the southern hemisphere and transported to Italy thousands of years ago. (Unlikely)

His books are a mind boogling read.
