Summer is here and the Water Quality and Health Council, in partnership with the American Chemistry Council, is once again offering free pool test kits to the public through its Healthy Pools Campaign.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends swimmers check the pH and chlorine levels of swimming pools before getting into the water. Adequate pool chemistry helps reduce the risk of recreational water illnesses like "swimmer's ear," which CDC says is responsible for over two million trips to the doctor each year and $500 million in healthcare costs.
Order your free pool test kit today at Interactive Map « HealthyPools Blog. You are invited to return to that website to upload your pool readings to a national data collection map. There is even a smart phone-friendly view to make data uploading convenient poolside.
Have a safe and healthy summer!
Thanks for this great find! Every year somebody posts a pool test kit, I have yet to purchase one in the 5 years we've had our pool so far![]()
glad to help.
Spaz's easy pool temperature test.
Tools needed:
1 - Child under five years of age
1 - Super duper large sippy cup full of child's favorite beverage
Method:
Give child sippy cup and allow them to drink it. If they need to use the restroom, firmly tell them 'no' until the cup has been drained. Once emptied, place the child in the swimming pool. If the water turns yellow near the child, the water is warm. Otherwise, the water is cool, which is great for a hot summer day!
