Thanks so much for the link. I actually let mine expire as a way to save and will glad to have it again because I sometimes used some of the coupons and offers for shopping.

I sent this link to a lot of people. Then I got a call from one of them who actually called AARP in California to find out if it was ligit.....They were told it was a scam.

I hope they were told wrong or I'm going to have a lot explaining to a lot of people.

Since I like to verify things (I come from a newspaper background), I first called the number listed above. Then I called the AARP number listed on the actual website. The reps at each of those numbers verified - this isn't a scam.

I don't know which number your father called, but perhaps it wasn't the national number - like the person who called AARP California. The local or state offices might not know about this offer.

The second rep even told me you can call Monday through Friday 9:00AM - 7:30PM EST to apply over the phone if you don't want to do it on the web. She slso went to the trouble of going to the membership website the OP posted above to make sure that website is indeed an AARP supported site.

    It is.

So, bottom line - this is a legitimate freebie for people who are having financial problems.
