    Memorex DVD+RW/+R drive for = $159.94

This deal almost sounds too good to be true. DVD RW/R and CD RW/R!!!! Does anyone know of any reliable sites I can find ratings/reviews on the product besides cnet and zdnet. Does anyone that own this product have anything positive/negative to say about it.

Just thought I'd let everyone know,
I bought the same drive today at Bestbuy for 300 - 49.95 instant rebate -10% Sports illustrated coupon -50 mir. It came out to 224 +tax -50mir, so around 175 +tax. It's 25 more than the Staples offer but you get it instantly, and with the way Staples' webstore is set up, you never know when the drive will be in stock again. The 10% coupon came from the latest Sports illustrated, but I heard it was also in Maxim and a few other magazines. Also, the rebate only requires a photocopy of the upc.. so if Memorex decides to put another rebate out in the next few days it'd still be redeemable. Crossing my fingers for more savings.. :D

+r & +rw dvd blanks are more expensive
than -r that's why the drives are a little cheaper. The SONY dru500a can do all formats so if one of those formats bites the dust later, at least the Sony can use the other format.

Its a bit like Beta & vhs. They look exactly the same when you use them but one costs more than the other basically.

That's a rather simplistic view of the differences of +-rw by comparing it to beta and vhs. The next dvd write format won't be finalized til next year, and its derviation can very well end BOTH + and - formats. Yes the DRU500a is a great drive, however it is not just a LITTLE cheaper, its a full $90-115 more with faster drives from both formats coming out. That's a lot considering there's no guarantee that either format will survive beyond 2-3 more years. However, these days, who keeps drives for more than 3 years anyway? The cost of media can be offset by buying in bulk and also simply finding a good deal or rebates(like what this website's for.)
