Subsciption is $29.99, free local and long distance calling. I am currently paying about $27-$28 just for local. This seems like a great deal and I already have cable internet/TV.

I'd say no. In general, VoIP service is great for a person living single who needs only one phone or maybe two with an expandable phone system. If you think about it, you get one VoIP jack to hook up to a phone, so it's not the best solution for households (my case in point), but for a person or couple living in an apartment, it could be a great solution.
However, I'd stick with Vonage. Vonage is the original, the equipment is pretty cheap, and their monthly fee is only $25/mo for unlimited everything. Vonage was the original pioneer in VoIP technology, and although they're not the cheapest (Packet8 etc. can give you service for $20/mo), they give you technical support and their service is the original, so it is far more developed than the others. AT&T CallVantage is a newcomer, and it's more expensive to boot.

The quality is usually better than a cell phone, and often times as good as a landline.
I do see that you're running Comcast which is a great connection for VoIP. Good speeds, and latency is good which is important. I'd recommend it for you, and you can port your existing number over as well. Only real disadvantage to it is that if your internet or electricity goes out, you're without a phone. If you have a cell phone for backup, there's nothing wrong with going the VoIP route, but definitely do it through Vonage.
Thanks EriK! My wife and I were discussing the same limitation of 2 lines. And yea we do have a cheap cell phone for emergencies. Will check out Vonage.

Well, all the regular telephone companies are charging around $30. That includes Verizon, AT&T CallVantage, etc.
Vonage charges $5 a month less and does provide technical support. Also, they are the pioneers of the technology.
Services like Packet8 which are $20/month will work fine, but you're stuck if it malfunctions since they barely have technical support. If you go with Vonage, you have support and the piece of mind that you are going with the best service, and it's cheaper than the telcos to boot.
