Mine doesn't say what make it is. The device manager just says 48x12x50 CDRW. It's not Liteon :(

If serial # is all numbers on back of box, 12 digits, it's a liteon.

If serial # has a combination of letters or numbers, probably an acer.

It's combination of numbers and alphas. So it's an Acer then. Funny why the bios doesn't query the device and show what it make it is. Have u seen this before ?

Cause with these rebadged drives, they generally use a slightly custom firmware so that it says "cendyne" or "verbatim" or whatever at bootup or in windows. What sucks is that these companies that rebadge drives generally don't release updated firmware, so you could have a liteon so and so that can do mt ranier but cendyne or whoever won't release an update.

I can recall my first cdr drive, a 2x hi-val which was made by mitsumi. Reason I do, is cause they made NO attempt whatsoever to hide that it was a rebadged drive and that they didn't 'manufacture' it since the included manual said in bold letters MITSUMI on it :D

With liteons, you can for example use the corresponding liteon firmware and flash it, and voila, it's now a liteon both physically and in the firmware, and forever more nero, windows, etc call and treat it as a liteon. In the case of the 40x12x40x verbatim drives model VBT something with 12 digits ALL numbers, most of them could even be flashed up to a 48x cdr liteon cause that's what they were. Some weren't liteons.

I don't know if you can with acers. I suppose so, but as always, one mistake and "pop pop pop pop goes the burner, pop goes the burner cause the burner goes pop"

..think 80's white rappers (trio) cracking on vanilla ice, the tune will come to ya.

What does it say for model # on the top of the drive itself?
