    This is from Crucial.com
    I did not know this.

ECC stands for "error correcting code." If you have a single-bit memory error, ECC memory will detect and correct the error. If you have a double-bit memory error, ECC memory will detect and report the error.

    Description:

Are ECC and parity the same thing? If not, what's the difference?

    Solution:

No. Although they both detect memory errors, ECC and parity are not exactly the same. Parity modules detect single-bit data errors. Error correcting code (ECC) modules detect and correct single-bit errors, and they detect and report double-bit errors.

FPM and EDO modules can be parity or non-parity. SDRAM and DDR modules can be ECC or non-parity (also called non-ECC).

Yeah, there's somethin' goofy here about this stuff.

    Did a check on Pricegrabber.com for Smart 512MB PC2100:

    http://xpbargains.pricegrabber.com/s...6854f82f5cb24b

Returns TWO instances of this stuff around $24 (before shipping), did last night anyway, is now returning nothing, when it did, each link identified a discontinued product, but what gives here, was this stuff EVER selling around this price-point? Generic too, and the description matches Buy.com EXACTLY! A check of 512MB PC2100 at Pricewatch.com shows more of what I was expecting, around $95 and up. And even eBay is around $50-70. But that Pricegrabber result has me a little nervous, perhaps this is really CRAP and maybe WE'RE the ones being taken (just a thought)!

    http://www.pcnation.com/asp/details.asp?item=568650

    PCNation has it (SAME Part# GM6464DDR3H1 ) for $26.95!

Perhaps it's some 3/4-layer PCB (instead of the much better 6-layer stuff you see from Crucial or Corsair), discontinued, or maybe some of first ever produced? Given the number of places selling it, I say there's no rush to buy. Perhaps one stick is worth the investment for a non-critical server machine.

    CL2 ?

It's listed as CL2 memory, which would imply that it is good memory (I'm assuming this refers to CAS latency), as typical memory is 2.5 and crappy generic memory is often 3. I'm assuming this is a price mistake as this is about $100 cheaper than anywhere else with PC2100 CAS 2.0 memory. Don't get your hopes up.
