You see, in essence what you are doing is cheating the hotel: you are trying to get a service for less than it would normally cost you by paying the clerk more than he would normally get but less the the hotel would normally charge. You are also insulting the clerk and his integrity. Just ask them nicely - as pointed out many will accomodate you if they can. Then you can give them the $20 as a thank you and they can enjoy it guilt free. Or, if you get it free and do not tip them the $20 you reveal your true intentions and pettiness.
Um, you've BEEN to Vegas right?

My question is, can you ask for your $20 back if the front desk clerk ignore your upgrade request? ;)

When I travel, I rarely spend time in my room. All I need is a nice clean room. Of course there is exception such as Haiwaii or other places where you can have beautiful ocean/mountain view.

Man that seems like a upsetting way to get a room upgrade or better view!!!

I'll stick to the easy & guaranteed plan of action for an easy to get upgrade. Going to Vegas multiple times a year for 10 years, I'll tell you this if you guys are getting this creative to get that worked up about a room upgrade or better view for $20.00! That's LOL... What's wrong with making a simple phone call to confirm your room reservation and at same time be very friendly tell them your coming to vegas to get married or fiancee has never been to vegas & would like to suprize her or him.. Next thing you here is please hold next thing you know there back on the phone and your set. This has worked every time I have stayed in vegas.. And to most peoples it's a suprize "It's So Easy". I have no problem staying at the next guys hotel but this trick has never failed me.. Free Shows, Bottles of Wine, ton's of Free stuff, not to mention a room & View upgrade's eveytime sometimes they will even double or triple the upgrade. I'll tell you this it's alot easier to call them you get multiple chances to confirm your room "Upgrade Opportunity" till you actually get there to the hotel and have to be face to face and try to pull that $20.00 trick off in front of there boss and trying keep your cool etc. etc.

Save that 20 bucks and hit the slots on the way to your room!!! Hit and Win I Get %50 Commission....

    This fits for vegas

Folks, please remember, this is about vegas. Remember, vegas??? The city that promotes gambling and prostitution? The CITY that uses as its ad slogan "what happens here, stays here." Or, come here and be whatever jerk you want.

Now, all that aside, I'm actually in favor of gambling (well, as an investor, not as a gambler) and, well, prostitution should probably just be legalized. After all, it's not going to go away and legalizing it might help clean it up.

But, Vegas is a city were long ago what most would consider a bribe became only a "tip." For example, no ticket to a show is real. Just "tip" the guard at the front of the velvet rope and you'll never wait in line. Just "tip" the maitre d' of the showroom (who buy their jobs because of the "tips" they rake in), and whatever ticket you have will be upgraded.

We all know that money talks. But, in Las Vegas, it talks louder and bribes are a way of life.

So, i'm not surprized that this works 75% of the time on average in Las Vegas. In other locations that number will drop far lower. Be friendly. Chat. Ask. You might get that upgrade for free.

A bribe, however is generally frowned upon and can cause employees to lose their jobs.

The key is the difference between a tip and bribe. A tip is given after a service as a thank you. A bribe is given before the service to buy the person off.

a Tip - Small present of money given for service rendered - Collins English Dictionary

a Bribe - A payment made to person to induce them to treat the payer favorably. - Deardorff's Glossary of International Economics

Bribery is the practice of offering a professional or an authority person money or other favours in order to circumvent ethics or other rules in a variety of situations. It is a form of corruption and is generally illegal, or at least cause for sanctions from one's employer or professional organisation.

How dare you make that statement. Why I am a politician and you are talking about what runs the country. Good ole fashioned harmless lobby groups and call girl rings. Why when I pull out my 20 I get a lot better looking ho ho ho if you know know know what I mean. Also the rate of $ucce$$ is not that 74.57% but rather 76.59- 76.69%. Thank you and goodnight and God bless America.

I agree with you about the oldest profession. Reno has had legalized prostitution for over 20 years with mandatory weekly testing for sti's and monthly testing for HIV. The rates of these are virtually non-existent among the "professionals" in Reno.

OT, but some drugs should be legalized too. If some people smoked a little bit of pot it might settle everyone in this country down a little bit

I'll chime in here since I worked in a large Las Vegas strip property. Front desk agents are allowed to accept tips, as are most casino employees as long as it isnt over a certain amount. If an employee is not allowed to accept a tip they wont. They wont put their job on the line for you. This $20 for service is nothing new. You can try it for getting dinner reservations, better seats at a show, into clubs etc.. Before offering money just ask nicely (Without begging or being mean), you just may get it. Also, when booking a room resv. you could always just ask them to note a request for a room with a view & that you know it isnt gauranteed or you can call the front desk the morning your due to checkin & see whats available.

    Statistical Data Reference Data Needed

If you actually expect me to believe that there was empirical statistical data representing a 74.57% success rate, you gotta cite your source. You think Simmons Market Research was outside a hotel saying to folks, “Excuse me sir, did you try to bribe a clerk? Did it work for you or did you just foolishly waste a Jackson?” What do you think the responses would have been?

Or was this data gleaned from clerks? “Taking a poll here. When you accept bribes, do you actually give the customer a better room, ripping off your employer? Or do you just take the money and rip off the customer?”

    Where’s the data, baby?

I have been with spoofee for some years... it is shocking to see a deal like that, but i will take it as information and experience sharing as spoofee been very good with that.

This is not entirely bad, nor right or wrong. Information is presented to you everyday and everywhere, just a matter of how you use it.

    Cheers!

Well obviously you would learn that the data and the statistics came from the website posted at http://www.frontdesktip.com/ from first hand experienced customers. so it's successes divided by attempts is where that data is coming from and it is good to being accurate.

I have been with spoofee for years too and i have to admit, i was surprised about this post but i felt like it was one of the best posts EVER! it's awesome seeing all these reactions and cool posts everyone is doing. and it's like "JustLooking!" said, it's just a matter of how you use it. I'm a big fan of random knowledge and this is definately a cool topic to bring up for conversations. Spoofee rocks! :claps:
