    Cats/Plant help

    For all you cat owners,

My problem is I love plants, but I have two cats that will surely eat it as soon as I leave the room. Do you guys have any tips or non toxic sprays that will help with this? I dont want to have to keep moving the plants around. Thanks!

You could always try one RAW egg blended in two cups water then spray it on the plant. It used to prevent the deer from eating our shrubs (but the neighbors exact shrubs were always gone by the end of the winter--he he).

Don't know if cats would avoid it though.

My cats used to love raw egg- they got into a bowl that I left for a minute.

Ah now cats I can handle. Any time my cats would go near my plants I would spray them w/ a water bottle. They did it soo many times that they eventually learned not to go near them...even when I was gone. Good luck w/ that!!

When it dries, it apparently leaves a pretty nasty taste. Can't say I tried to lick the leaves afterwards.

To protect plants and borders both mothballs and citrus are said to be effective deterrents. Place the mothballs, orange peel or lemon rind in the borders. Alternatively spray cloths with orange scented air freshener and place the cloths around the plants you wish to protect. Other known cat repellents are cayenne pepper, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, eucalyptus oil and mustard oil.

    He he. Lion dung.
Another natural product which many people claim really keeps a cat out of the garden is lion's dung. You may need to visit your local zoo to obtain this although some stores do stock zoo poo.

Go for the citrus rinds... mothballs smell NASTY! I tried them to get rid of chipmunks in our yard/garden. We didn't want to hang around outside because of the pervasive smell!

You don't want mothballs anywhere near you. They give off a vapor that you shouldn't be around.

"When it dries, it apparently leaves a pretty nasty taste. Can't say I tried to lick the leaves afterwards."

Every smelt rotten egg? Do you want your house to be like that?

Sure I've smelled rotton egg. I wouldn't have suggested this option if our house stunk at all. I have a very sensitive nose.

I tried the orange peels last night and they really work! One of my cats came up to it and sniffed and recoiled in disgust. I had no idea that they didnt' like citrus peels. So yay! that was easy. Thanks for all your suggestions guys! My plants can live in peace.
