You can get a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Perpendicular Recording 320GB drives from NewEgg.com for $94.99 each with free 3-day shipping.

Sure, it's less overall capacity, but you're getting faster drives for less per gig. Also, you don't have to deal with rebates! Don't have SATA? You can buy a SATA card for as low as $14.99 on NewEgg.

Down sides of buying 2 320GB drives instead of 1 750:
*) Takes one more hd slot in your computer.
*) Twice the power consumption. Although hard drives use relatively little power and this probably wouldn't even be an issue unless you plan on keeping the drives for 10 years. (Unlikely.)
    *) More heat in computer.

In my case #1 is the big issue for me. I buy hard drives in pairs of two now, and use RAID 1 mirroring on them. (I've learned my lesson from a couple of hard drive crashes.) I'd have to buy 4 drives here to get 740+ gigs. :(

If you don't have to worry about needing that extra slot (whether for more space or RAID), then the two drive solution is probably best as ehaley mentions.

Ordanos is on the right track. Additionally, more hd's means more noise. The loudest part of a computer can easily be the combined vibrations of the harddrives. It can also be quite inconvenient for backing up files if one has to split the data across multiple drives. Sure there are program that can handle it, but with a single 750, there's no need. Just a few more things to consider. One is paying for more than mere space.

Or you can get two of those 320 gigs and RAID 0 them. Gives you 640 gig plus extra performance. I'm just playing devil's advocate

Buy another and then take the "old" one back.
