To really drive this display at the full resolution (2550 x 1600), you need a $300+ graphics card.

Not really...They're around $250 now...or even less. Prices are coming down thanks to the hype of Vista & DirectX 10 cards (which are not out yet).

Also I wouldn't get this refurbed monitor, as you can get a brand new one just for $100 more.

I don't know, I dislike refurbed items. A new monitor might not die after the warranty is over, but a refurbed might die right after warranty.

Either way, I recommend people to stay away from Refurbed items, especially if the difference is as small as a hundred dollars.

But you don't need an nVidia 8800 to use this monitor. You will however need a DX10 card to watch HD movies with HDCP protection later on.

You have not given a solid argument as to why to stay away from refurb items ... all the items I've recieved that have been refurbed have worked wonderfully, and most are still working to this day.

Anything can break or stop working if you're careless.

I have had bad experiences with refurb items. If they break, even if they are under warranty, it is a hassle. I have had them break right after the warranty expires. Definitely stay away from Sony refurbs.

I wouldn't get this just because the 30" has worse reviews (mainly on quality/sharpness) than the 24" or 27" inch monitors. Well, the last time (December) I read up on them that was the case.

They have a newer version that's more expensive...but these monitors use Phillips panels and have the same quality as the Apple Cinema Displays, I've seen them face to face, and they're gorgeous...now refurb turns me off.

    From the Tech Specs:

    Response Time 11 ms (grey-to-grey)
    14 ms (black-to-black)

isn't that very high? this monitor is probably great for movies, but terrible for videogames and even websurfing cuz you'd get ghosting,,, right? (not sure what exactly ghosting is). i have a 24 inch dell flat panel that has a 6ms response time and when i scroll quickly on webpages i notice a green... um.. aftercolor... where the black was. so i think anything higher than 5ms would produce that effect.
