I drowned my cell phone !

I left my cellphone in a vat of coffee overnight, which apparently was not a good idea.

I have a T-mobile plan, it was a free phone, and when I called for a replacement, it was going to be a hundred bucks. So then they talked me into a $200.00 model with a camera and other extras I do NOT need or even want. Having an mp3 player on it would be cool, but not for that money, and it can only hold a few songs anyway.

I looked in all the past threads for cellphone tips without success. I went to their website and most phones were only available with a new plan.

Was there somewhere else I coudl have gone? It has to be a Motorola (so I can use the older chargers), and it has to be T-Mobile-ready and "unlocked".

The guy on the phone at T-Mobile said that could really only be guarenteed by buying it from them directly and adding on another two years. So I did that, and am having bigtime buyer's remorse.

Was I a big dummy? I want to cancel the order and get something cheaper. Any advice?

Thanks so much if you can help! I am such a sucker for phone sales.

I upgrade my phone recently to one with a phone. Glad I did. With the kids it's very convenient to 'snap' a quick moment, especially those unexpected delightful ones. I wouldn't feel too bad or beat yourself up too much.

if you are O.K. with used cell phones, you can get them on ebay. Thats what I did, got something nice that was used, with the latest technology like bluetooth and camera and i dont worry about it getting scratched or stolen because it was cheap. I dunno if T-mobile uses SIM cards, but you would still need that from the old broken phone to put into the new/used phone. if you decide to get a phone from ebay, you need to search for a T-mobile compatible phone. you have to be careful with phones that may be overly worn out too.

alternatively, you could say to tmobile that you are going to change companies if they dont give you something at a discount. and if you do change companies, you can "port" your number over to the new company and get a free new phone. that is, if you arent locked into a plan already.

    Great, thanks!!

Boy, that was great advice! (and like Precocious said, maybe I should just keep it...)

re: the link from Choochoojr -- We have the phone soaking right now, I can't wait to dry it and test it.

Also, I went to Ebay per eabu's advice, and put a slew of phones on "watch". The time for the first two has come and gone and they were sold for more than I paid for the new one I ordered. I don't know what the trick is to get them cheap, but I'll keep looking out for inexpensive ones.

re: Kadin'sMama's question, well, let me just say it happened Halloween night, and there may have been a bit of alcohol involved..

    Thanks guys!

I have washed a couple of cell phones in the washer a couple of times, and dropped one in the tub once while getting the lil girl I watch out of the tub and one in a rain puddle.:o It would take it a good 2 to 3 days or so to dry out completley but would work just fine once all dried out(unless you put the same phone in the washer a second time then it appears to be too much for the phone to handle )We have T-mobile also and they don't cover anything that is water damaged, they will not budge. If you are close to coming up due for a new contract then you can try and get them to give you a good deal on an upgrade model, don't tell them it's because you NEED a new phone tell them your looking to see what they have to offer so you can decide if you want to switch carriers.Good luck!

    What the heck ?!?!?!?!

Okay, I just don't get it... Could someone explain this to me please?

This is one of the phones I was 'watching' on Ebay -- I checked back and saw that I hadn't won it, -- and then saw how much it was sold for !!!

These phones are only two hundred bucks new, and this one has a broken camera! What on earth am I missing????

I stopped bidding at twenty five dollars, guess I was a little short.

I have a whole BUNCH of broken crap I could put up for auction, if there is such a market for it.

    ---------------------------------
    Okay, here's the phone :

    Winning bid: US $1,525.00
    ________________________________________
    Ended: Nov-05-06 14:01:28 PST
    Shipping costs: US $5.00

    Ships to: United States
Item location: Louisville, Kentucky, United States
    History: 26 bids
    Winning bidder: rushme81 ( 10 )

    Starting time: Oct-29-06 14:01:28 PST
    Starting bid: US $1.00
    Motorola V3

MOTOROLA SILVER V3 RAZR FOR T-MOBILE

This is a great phone up for sell. Both screens work perfect, the phone makes calls, all the buttons work, it rings and vibrates, etc. - the only thing wrong with it is that the camera won't take a picture. You can see and receive pictures fine, you just can't take any new ones. The camera will even come on, it just won't take a picture. The battery is working perfectly and the phone holds a charge like normal. The phone has some scratches from wear, but looks good overall. Both screens are bright and vibrant. The inside screen does have a slight blemish but it doesn't affect the screen clarity. I like to use the camera so my loss is your gain. I do not know what happened to the phone to cause the camera issue so I cannot warranty the phone for use, but I have stated how it is in good working condition. You are buying this phone AS IS, however, This is a NO RESERVE auction, so the highest bid takes it! I value my feedback, so please ask any questions you might have and Good Luck.

oh shoot, I thought the attachment would show up as a picture. Darn.

(& Immizliz -- they told me at T-mobile that they had put a little chip in the phone that changes color when the phone has been exposed to liquid -- while implying that I should know about this in case I was planning to lie about why it stopped working, which was sort of offensive, since I had already told them the truth....)

The winning bid was $152.50 and not $1525.00. I like rushme81's feedback though. (S/he was the one that supposedly won this auction.) This auction may have done him/er in.

There was a $15,000.00 bid? It got retracted, but ... what the heck?! $15,000 for a cell phone?

Yes there is lil "sticker" under the battery that should be white and turns a pinkish reddish when the phones been exposed to water. But that would not matter if you are trying to upgrade to a new phone, only if you were trying to get a replacement for it.With an upgrade you keep the old phone with a replacement you have to return the old phone and then if they find water damage they charge you for it somehow.

I tried adding this to my previous post but it would not let me.
You can get the razr phone thru tmobile for less then $152. and it will come with a rebate and it will be brand new with a warranty,we just got 2 of them not to long ago and I THINK they were about $100 each .To get the best deal on phones and plans you want to ask to speak with an account specialist they are the ones supposedly authorized to give the best offers because they want to keep you as a customer, where as the customer service people that answer the phones do not have the authorization to give special offers or care as much if you stay on as a customer or switch to another carrier for the most part. Also if your not picky about a phone you can always try posting a request for someones old phone on your local Freecycle, people always have extra phones lying around that they don't need anymore.

Just a thought: A friend of mine dropped her phone in the lake and since she knew water damage was not covered, she reported it stolen. She recieved a new phone shortly after.
