    What a crock!

Names for celestial bodies are controlled and registered by an international group of scientists -- astronomers to be specific. But if I choose to call Proxima Centauri by some other name (Harold? Maude? Prince?) I don't need a website to "bless" it for me.

"Astronomical names are determined by the Internation (sic) Astronomical Union. NameAGalaxy and all other star naming services cannot officially name a star. All we can do is collect the unofficial names and record them."

I wonder how many people have the same stars, all with different names of course.

How many people are stupid enough to pay money to get the extras?

Maybe I will start a website like this and see if I can make good money?

You probably didn't realize that you were born under the astrological sign of "monkfish"

This would be fun for kids or for an Astromony class.

But it's a cute and fun crock. It's good to warn others not to take it seriously or invest their life savings in it. But think how romantic (an inexpensive) it would be for a young man to give his dim-witted girlfriend her own personal "star" for Christmas. LOL

You have a point. And I suppose if we're going to consider "Letters from Santa" as deals, this is no more unauthentic.

Then maybe the star-naming industry can create its own holiday like Valentine's Day or Sweetest Day, or better yet, perpetuate the people-killing diamond scam.
