    Mini-van problem

    I have a 97 plymouth voyager, 3.0 v6, 120k. It starts up fine and drive's o.k. but when I take my foot off of the gas pedal it stalls. As long as I am pushing on the pedal while in D it doesn't stall. When it stalls I need to put it in N and start it while given gas for it start back up. It is very cold here and when this problem first start I had almost no gas. Since then I have put gas in the van along with dry gas and fuel injector cleaner. Fixed a vacuum hose and cleaned out the egr valve. ANy ideas while be helpfull.

    Sounds like it is your fuel pump

    You can also take your care to Autozone (if there is one in MI) or similar store who will plug your computer input into the diagnostic reader (free of charge) to find out what it may be.

    Autozone will only do a free check if your check engine light is on. Learned that the hard way.

    assuming that your car is warmed up when this is happening,

    1. did you use the correct grade oil viscosity for your car in your current weather climate?

    2. is your car tuned correctly, and your idle rpm within specifications?

    Yes to all, except I haven't gotten tuned lately. My burgler alarm is also broken. When I start the van my flashers blink and I hear a ticking noise from under the dashboard. Could that be shutting down my van when I take my foot off the gas pedal? Hopefully I can get a computer hooked up to it this weekend to spit out anycodes that will help locate the problem.

    Check your fuel filter - cheap to replace. I'd more suspect another vacuum hose leak. Can you trust "cleaning" the EGR valve? I Googled it and found this;

    "With the engine warmed up and idling apply vacuum directly to the ERG valve (your mouth and a piece of hose is sufficient). If the engine stumbles the valve is good. More than likely the problem is the DPFE(GR) sensor and not the valve."
