Do you need a 48 hour day?

Do you need a 48 hour day just to get accomplished all the goals, lists, chores, or jobs you feel you have to complete or finish? Are you an effective "Time Manager" of "Micro Manager"? It seems to me of late, that many folks sadly are suffering from such stress of piling to many jobs, chores, dealing with the kids and their needs, finances etc. into their lives that I often wonder how they can even sleep at night from worry and stress? As a medical professional, I can atest that stress leads to so many illnesses. And of course that is plastered on the nightly news.

When I taught on the college level, it use to get up my nose that mature Ph.D's could not seem to "get it all done" with only twelve contact hours in the classroom and lab! Toss in three hours of required office hours, a few hours grading papers (most exams we file away for later use) and frankly, they were getting by on a thirty hour work week and still barking like seals!!! Take a walk down memory lane, and, think about your College Professor's office, and, how stuff was strewn about!

So Spoofee members, do you personally need more hours to your day? For those that answer "NO" can you share some time management secrets for those folks who are drowning? For the Spoofee parents out there, do you have a few tips to share on keeping the family up and running smoothly? Might help a friend or fellow spoofee to hang on for another week if you share! Thanks!

I really don't need a 48-hour day, just better refreshment from my sleep. I usually have to sleep 9-10 hours per night to even be functional the next day. Last night, I got 12 hours of sleep and I actually woke up feeling great!

    Spaz, I'm with you ;)

I found Flylady.com to be a good help as well. Also, if I make time to exercise (walk, elyptical, etc.) I usually have more energy and get lots more accomplished.

Also make lists and cross off as you go. Seeing what you've 'accomplished' is actualy a motivator to accomplish more! ;) This also helps not to forget some things. (You just need to remember to look at the list..;) )

I could use and extra hour and a half. That's roughly how long it takes me to fall asleep every night.

I have started excercising again and it has really helped my energy level.
And I make lists, starting with most important things done first.
I have stopped "killing" myself trying to get everything done. The highest priorities get done first and if the dishes dont make it in or out of the dishwasher that day, it's ok.
Some days we have so much going on that it's more important to be with my husband or Kadin and I can load the dinner dishes in the morning.

i'm "lucky" enough to be an incurable insomiac thats fully functional with only 3-4 hours of sleep for weeks at a time. i've been to specialists, had a few polysomnograms and no doctor can figure out why my brain refuses to sleep.

so with my overactive brain and an 18 hour day, i usually have enough time to get most of the things done that need to get done.

I am sooooooooooo proud to read about a Mommy who is not afraid to let the dishes go for a little while to spend time with a child! As a young mother many years ago (while dinosaurs still walked the earth!) I "THOUGHT" I had to get it all done before work. Wow was I wrong. I lost many a moment with my baby son trying to be Super Mom! You do learn alot over the years.

Like most folks here, I make lists, and, I try to accomplish a little bit off that list every day. One thing I remember from reading Flylady.com a couple of years ago was her advice to "toss out ten things a day that you don't need or have not used!" Hmmm, time for me to do just that, and, spring cleaning is around the corner! I also keep a calendar in all the rooms of the house that I am in the most with my schedule marked on each. That way, if someone asks me for a favor or do participate in an activity, I can immediately check the calendar and judge my time constraints!

While shopping, I tend to "stock pile" certain items (detergent, paper products, canned goods) so that I only have to buy it once a month. Saves me time and energy lugging crap into the house!

One bit of advice I received while still in practice was from a mother with six children under the age of ten! I said to her "How the h--l did you find time to get your makeup on and get in here on time?" She shared that before each child went to bed, their clothes were chosen and laid out the night before, their backpacks readied with homework checked, and, their lunch pals at least lined up for the morning. She allowed no toy to be played with unless the child was willing to place it back into the toy box or shelf, and, they knew she meant business!! On her wall, was a piece of tag board, with each child's name, and, chore/activity. Every time they carried out the same, they had a sticker/star placed on the tag board! After a number was reached they were rewarded. Not with gifts/toys, but, with extra quiet time with a parent, or a trip to the library for a book of their choice! I stood there with my mouth open, thinking about how much time I had spent getting my then three year old to get his shoes on to walk next store to Grandmom's!!!!! Planning....a good thing! Taking one on one time, a good thing!

My dad used to complain because, as he got older, he could only sleep a few hours a night. I thought that would be a wonderful thing!

Oh no no no, trust me....I average only two to three hours a night, and, your body and mind do react to the same. One really needs at least six straight hours to function in good health and mind. I do try to read when I am up, and, after about an hour, find it is hard to concentrate. Our human psyche knows we SHOULD be sleeping and of course, ole Rags will find ANY EXCUSE not to work at four thirty in the morning doing housework!

its not all that great! my brain may be functional but my body feels the effects.
my body is almost always 2 steps behind my mind and i'm always getting sick, at least once every 3 weeks. i'd do almost anything to keep a regular sleep schedule.
