Thumbs up 4.00% Checking Account - ING Direct

    http://home.ingdirect.com/products/p...ElectricOrange

I've been an ING savings customer for over a year, and I was invited to the Electric Orange Checking Tester group. Previously, you had to have a savings account with them for 6 months, but it's now available to the public, and I must say that I couldn't be happier with it. Hopefully, you will be too.

Give it a try! It's better than having money in a checking account and not earning any interest.

If you want the easy of working with a more traditional bank, the WaMu combined savings and checking is a great deal. It's nice to have the convience of local branches with a high yield money market saving account. If you keep up with only putting enough money in your checking to cover bills it's pretty easy to maximize your interest.

Though ING is also great if you don't have WaMu in your area.

Oh snap! Thanks for the heads up!

I already have a WAMU savings/checking account...plenty of WAMU branches in Houston, TX... turns out this online promotion is good for existing WAMU members as well... I just upped my savings account up to 5% with hardly a sweat...

    Thanks!
Always looking for a good deal...

This is a friggen pain! They won't let me upgrade my exiting personal saving account cause it's linked under the same username as my personal checking and bussiness checking. They want me to open a new checking and saving account to get this offer. GRRRRR

Sorry to hear about that. It was quite painless for me actually. It was all done online, and I had no problems with my existing free WAMU personal checking/savings account. The only oddity is that I now have three accounts: my checking account, my old savings account, and a new online savings account with the 5% rate.
Always looking for a good deal...

If you have both ING savings and checking you can move money instantaneously between the accounts (Electric Orange and Savings) so it makes it really convenient. Also they give you $1000 overdraft protection in the Electric Orange. You can manually transfer or set automated transfer to pay bills (keep most of your money in the higher interest ING savings account and then schedule when you are going to pay a bill to have it move to the Electric Orange). Also the debit card is free at many areas around the country that participate in their program.

What I can't understand is why they can't upgrade an existing savings account and I haven't gotten any of the phone people to give me a reason besides, it's online only.
