I have just started playing soccer after about 10 years and an extra 20lbs. It is killing my joints, can anyone help me with advice on how to strengthen your joints, knees, and legs????? I'm not looking for endurance running, more stop and go. Also, what is the best thing to take to relieve all the soreness?? Thanks for your help.
 
I've always heard heavy weights strengthens your joints really well- if you have access to any.(more running would hurt them worse) My sister has really bad knee problems and had to quit kickboxing because of it so don't overdo it and don't do any sudden turns- or you won't be playing any more! Good luck with the soccer!:)

Lunges & Squats.

ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR KNEES STAY BEHIND YOUR TOES! Your booty will need to (I'm trying to figure out how to say this without the spoofee community jumping all over me) press back.

Start easy though.

If you have a exercise ball, put it behind your back and stand up against a wall. Put your feet about 1 foot in front of you and hip width apart. Bend your knees to squat down. Go as far as you can until your thighs are just about parallel with the floor. Then push through the back of your legs/buttocks & heels to stand back up. Add weights for more resisitance. If you have got the feel of squats, you can do it without the ball.

Step ups would work too. Good for your quads.


BTW: The best thing that I have found for my sore muscles is a heating pad.
 
OK JMB I called my dad and he threw out the box and I ran out of mine. So, the only thing I can tell you is to go to GNC or another vitamin store and pck up Glucosamine Chondroitin/ Sulfate or just Glucosamine Sulfate. It will help aid in synovial fluid, which is your bodys own lubricant. Make sure you do your stretches as well. If you get a sprain make sure you use this method:
R.I.C.E Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate. I hope this helps!!
 
The stuff Crazybutt was talking about- Wal-Mart (which I know you hate) was giving out free samples of Move Free (something like what she is talking about) for joints, but I'm not sure if they still are. I have some that I got in the mail, but of course, I'm not using it. Anyway, Wal-Mart and target probably carry something a little cheaper for the joints (like this move-free stuff).
 
Actually I am almost positive that is the stuff I was using. Was the box mostly red? If that was the stuff it worked out pretty good for my dad but I was less then thrilled w/ the stuff.

Thanks for the tips, I will definately look into the move free stuff. I have been pushing it so thats probably why I'm still sore, that and the fact we play three games back to back to back. I don't have access to weights and I can't afford a gym membership right now so if there are thing I can do without weights I am open for more suggestions.


BTW Preco, I refuse to accept my fate! I am still young enough to bounce back if my body will let me. Just because Preco sags doesn't mean JMB has to too;)
