Anti-spyware from Microsoft

Microsoft put up a free beta of its new anti-virus software yesterday. You can find it by going to http://www.microsoft.com/ and clicking the ANTISPYWARE icon in the lower right corner of the screen. It seems to have some cool capabilities and gives some fairly detailed information. Maybe something good will come out of it.

Note, the software only works with Win2k, WixXP, and Win2k3.

how much do you want to bet it won't find the Alexia Spyware that is bundled with IE?

Kage_

I had used that software before when it as made by Giant. It seemed to work really well. My free subscription just ended for Giant Antispyware, so I downloaded this. It don't look much different than it was before.

I read about this, I'll have to try it on my computer, and then on my client's computers. I use Firefox so I really don't have anything in mine, so it's hard to test.

I am running this right now. Funny thing is, it hijacked my search/start pages. Go figure....

Beta means temporary

The software will stop running on July 31, 2005 or until they release a retail version wichever comes first.

Just to let you know.

Just finished using it. It found one Adaware didn't find. It also created a restore point. Not bad product from what I can tell so far.

I cannot stress enough the CAUTION that should be used when using this software.. You think because M$ provides it, it's can do no wrong.. Wrong! Be very carefull in what you choose to remove.. While it's actually not a bad product, it's not quite smart enough yet and can cripple your system if you don't know what your doing.

The same caution should be used if you use HiJackThis!... It's more dangerous more easily.. Please use caution.. While it's excellent software, with power comes responsibility...

Safe programs to use that I'd recommend are: Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.com) and SpySweeper (www.webroot.com). Used in conjunction with each other, prove to be very effective in tossing baddies out...

And what's with this whole, "if you have an original MS windows" bs... c'mon....

I have unxutils (sourceforge) in my machine. It recognized 'cat.exe' as a spyware.

i heard rumors of this anti-spyware from MS... it supposedly removed infected IE from the system also, which left some users without an internet explorer.
