I was watching the therapeutic commercial which made me want a new mattress.

Do you guys have any recommendations on brand or type?

We were recently shopping for mattresses. I believe we settled on the 'pillow top' version. (We're planning a re-do in our bedroom). I saw the theraputic type. It's actually VERY comfortable and VERY pricey. My concern with the 'foam' type of mattress is the breakdown in several years. We all keep our mattresses longer than recommended ( ) and any sort of petroleum based/rubber/etc. product seems to breakdown after awhile. Just an opinion.:)

You mean memory foam? Yeah, its very expensive & not washable & takes weeks to spring back according to people that used it.

i LOVE my Springair mattress... I dont know what model#.. I think it was the second lowest.. but SO comfortable.. A little bit pricey.. But I think it is worth it for good sleep..
This is also Pillow Top.

I have a Springair Pillow Top mattress too and I really like it. It's the Backsupporter from JCpenneys.
Does anyone know how your suppose to clean a pillowtop though. They do get dirty fast.

I have a Hoover rug cleaner with an upholstery cleaner attachment. I clean my sofa & chairs all the time. Could that work for you? Also, vaccuuming your mattress often is highly recommended.

I tried a Sleep Number bed in one of my recent trips and I hated it, but that's just me. I know this isn't a recommendation, but just a warning to try any mattress before you buy it. Also I wouldn't be cheap and only look at bargain mattresses since sleep is very important (to me at least).

I never think about vacuuming my mattress but I probably should. I have terrible allergies (Maybe if I dusted once in awhile that would help too). :p

I have the memory foam Tempur-Pedic bed, I dislike this bed. It doesn't "cradle" you, I can only guess how much you must weigh to make a dent in that foam .

I'm pushing for a pillow top :)

One think I learned abut buying a mattress is that they have a second price book that they keep behind the desk. I went to a Sleep Country to buy a mattress and ask if they would match the price of the Costco mattress and they did. I got a $900 mattress for $400. It was amazing to look at the price tag on the mattresses and what they were telling me the price I could have it for was. They showed me different models on the floor all with drastically lower prices than the tag.

Just remember to price match :)

I agree about price matching, however...some retailers only do 'exact' matches. One manufacturer will make the same mattress and sell to two different stores. Store A calls it the 'Empress', store B calls it 'Dutchess' - but it's the same mattress. I've run into this.

i had a memory foam mattress, too, and being a stomach sleeper, this was the WORST mattress i ever had- king set cost me about 1500, and within a year, i talked todd into a pillowtop. the set we have now is from costco, and i have been 100% satisfied with it.

as far as cleaning it, when we get the carpets cleaned, we have the guys clean the couches and mattresses too- it's only like 10 bucks and totally worth it!

I agree that foam mattress is bad too, it's sensitive to temperature, that means during winter it will be stiffer, unless you maintain constant room temperature all year long.

Our best mattress so far is latex. It's very comfortable AND naturally dust-mite resistant, which I have bad allergy from. We shopped around, it turned out there's only 1 supplier for latex mattresses in US, Latex International. Therefore, you buy brand if you pay high. We bought ours from www.sleepez.com. They're in town here, so if you want me to check something, just let me know. We settled for 7" solid core latex and love it...

Latex?

Wouldn't you just get stuck to the bed?

Wow.. thank you so much guys!

This has been very helpful and I feel very comfortable buying a pillow top mattress.

Now .. I gotta start shopping around for prices. Will pricematch for sure :)

Thinks about cracking a Latex joke

Decided against it

I like firm matresses because it's better for your back anyways. I got Sealy firm mattress from Costco for $500 2 years ago and could not be happier. It's great for sleeping on your back or stomach.

I was told once that pillow-tops are not good if you want to "flip the mattress". But then again, with good quality unit, there should be no need to flip.

And, also, you must ask yourself: WWDD? :secret:

Actually, some mattresses come with both sides pillow top, I got mine with only one side... to cut on costs...but still good!

Make it a good soft one Spoofee. I purchased a $150 mattress (new) and my back is killing me now that I've used it for almost 8 years. The extra money spent on a pillow top would have been worth the lack of pain.

I'm amazed at the prices you're quoting. The king size pillow top mattress set we were looking at was over 2K......I must find the model number and then let you guys help us out!
