Hey guys....
Well, I recently bought that 160GB seagate barracuda hard drive for $20 after MIR that was shown on the main page last week, and i decided i wanted to fill it up hehe...

Basically, I wanted to know if any of you guys have any useful programs you regularly use? List any program you use which is really useful, a bit useful, or even useless (just becasue i want to fill up the space =D ). Games dont count , i have enough of those :D

I guess i should share some programs i have which are cool:

Mozilla Firefox: I love this web browser. It is so much better than internet explorer, and its tab features are amazing. There are so many addons which enhance its options, it is utterly amazing. Its free, so give it a try.

Mozilla Sunbird: Basically, its a calendar/organizer thing, but i like it quite a bit. I try to be organized and this does help me, so for all you nonprocrastinators, and the obsessively compulsive, heres a program that could help you out a bit.

Xfire: Basically, this is a chatting program for gamers, which shows which games your friends are playing, and it lets you communicate to your friends during the game, without minimization. It shows your friend's server IP, which is useful for games like Counter Strike.

Alzip: A free program (which i think was originally korean, but now its in english) which is like Winzip, only better (somehow)

Aol Instant Messenger:
Dont even ask me what this porgram is, I hope you guys know....

NASA world wind: Awesome 3D program of the world, and it has like 99% of the cities/towns of the world in it. It has everything and is a great time passer and is totally awesome. It has longitude, latitude, and all this stuff, and you can zoom in, zoom out....really good time passer.

Audacity: Another cool program used to make remixes of songs and stuff. Has many great features like fade in, fade out, and stuff like that. If you like making remixes, this is the best program i know of.

Monkey's Audio: A program which compresses .WAV files. However, unlike MP3 files, the quality does not change or get worse.

Google Desktop Search This nifty (god im starting to sound like carlton from the fresh prince of bel air, haha) little program was created by the greatest bestest company on earth, and it stores stuff about you. I basically use it to store chats between my friends and I, so i can refer back to it later. It also stores web pages, which is cool. Oh ya, it also searches files on your computer.

Google Toolbar This cool toolbar lets you search anything on google, no matter what page you are on, and it also has a popup blocker. Just get it because its really useful and saves time.

LASTLY:

Skype This program lets you talk to people around the world that have this same program for FREE. My friend uses it to talk to his cousins in Ohio and Malaysia (and hes in NJ), and the voice is clear. You can also call telephones for a cheaper than normal price. Its a great program to keep in touch with relatives and friends.

Wow, thats all of it. You guys could just give me a list of the program, and like a 2 word description of it instead of what i did, haha.

Ooh, i forgot to mention that all these programs are free...i only specified that some are free

7-zip - 7-zip.org
Google Earth - earlier known as keyhole
DVDShrink - DVD back up program

Goto sourceforge.net and download the all the free softwares

Partition the disk and install Linux - for free Linux CD visit ubantu.org or kubantu.org

Thanks a lot guys.
I see that there are a lot of antispyware programs listed here, haha.

Druvans said it... I'm still amazed at this program. Simply amazing. I can see streets in my hometown, not only in US... Wow! Try the tilt function over Grand Canyon and you don't need to take helicopter tour there...

This google earth thing sounds a lot like Nasa Wind thingy....I'll try em both out, and I'll see which one is better

Thanks again for the lists guys

HOLY &%$# That google thing is so much frickin better!!!!!!!

i saw my own house, and it was quite clear.....The google program has better zoom and quality

I love google

looking at both more closely, Nasa world wind has more options, better interface, and i think more cities

yeah but wouldnt the shows take up a lotta room fast?
Like how big would a 30 min show be?

about 100-175MB depending on quality. Not that much space IMO.

I agree about DVD Shrink, if you have a DVD burner.

Nero 7 Ultra is nice :)

WMRecorder - lets you record streaming video that you're not supposed to be able to record. A lot of comedy sites have the "download this video" but a few that i really liked didn't so this comes in handy.

DivX - Get this plugin and player, it's the simplest interface around

Power MP3 Cutter - Allows you to take certain clips of mp3s or wavs and convert them to mp3s or wavs at whatever bit rate you want

CPUz - Diagnostic program telling you your cpu speed, ram speed & timings cpu and ram volts, etc

DVD Identifier (if you have a dvd burner) this checks the media code on your blank media to see if it's compatable with your drive

Adobe Photoshop - I use it for EVERYTHING

Style XP - Make your desktop look cooler :)

Avast - best antivirus out In my opinion
