anyone tried to make a Custom PVR/DVR ???

Has anyone here tried to make one themselves or do you know how to make it???

i was wondering if i get a TV tuner card will i be able to do the same from my PC?? i am asking for recording from cable/Dish, is it possible?
 
Personally, I can't watch TV on my computer.

Although my dual tuner Tivo with DirecTV is by far the greatest invention known to man. :bigok: :claps:
 
but it will only work as long as you have directv service, i am planning on getting dish, but i want to know beforehand if i will be able to record from it or not.

Dish Network or a "regular" dish? If Dish Network, I know they have a free DVR promotion right now.

If you mean a regular dish, I would assume that a "regular" Tivo or home made DVR should work with it, but can't you ask the dish manufacturer?

You use it to record to a dvd, then you can play it on your tv. ATI video cards come with a free program to do it.
 
well, i already have dish, i mean i have a cable running from my neighbor to my house, sharing their dish(Dish Network) for a few days to see if its worth it, i called and they will only give me one box and i want more than one :( :(
I have to pay for the other one and he wasn't sure if it will work or not.

and there is no point in paying to get a dvr which won't work once i don't want dish network. and i oppose paying monthly to tivo when i already paid for the box.


i guess making my own is the only solution.?

thats mine, came free with my computer. It works very nicely with digital cable.
 
I am told to buy Hauppauge PVR 150 by some people, as per them it comes with a Remote/IR Blaster and that i won't need to buy anything else seperately.


can anyone here verify this? has anyone used the above card??

Im planning on building one right now. Im looking at MythTV, trying to look at a way to tie in bittorrent with an RSS feed so I can download TV episodes automatically. Also trying to set up some games through this, I plan on it being much more than a PVR. This is the box I plan to use:
