Apple iPad Release Date April 3, 2010

I want one. My daughter wants one and my wife isn't saying (but she wants one).
My hesitancy to getting one is that it's 1st generation. For how expensive it is I don't like the idea of being part of the first release. If they would announce that future developments (such as adding a camera feature) will be able to be retrofitted I'd be more likely to just get one.
Another thing is that I anticipate it being as much fun as my iPod Touch but with the Touch I can carry it in my pocket. Probably the best thing about the Touch is that it's so accessible. As an example, the Kindle is about the same size as the iPad but when not at home I read my Kindle books from the Touch. Even while waiting for an elevator I just take the Touch out of my pocket and read a page or two. I wouldn't be able to do that with the iPad. Too big.
Too late to get on the bandwagon there will surely be a whole accessory product line to the iPad that will produce small sling pouches or bags for the things. I can see carrying something like that because I don't lose things, but my wife? I suppose iPad theft/loss insurance will be available (and worth it) too.

Jerry, I agree. You are better of waiting for the 2nd gen. I remember reading an article somewhere that spoke about a lot of missing features on the iPad that will very likely be included in a 2nd generation release.

First thing I'd want before I took the plunge: removable battery.
Second thing: jail break!

Gotta be able to jailbreak. My iPod Touch is too much fun being jailbroken. Way more available apps and most for free.

I just recieved my free iPod touch last Friday. I got it by opening a BBVA Compass account with direct deposit.

Why exactly are people jailbreaking it?

OKay... and why didn't you chime in that I could get one for free? Hmmm? I just spent $269.99+ tax for one at Best Buy! Arrrrrgh....

I'm so jealous...

First of all, it's only an 8gb. But I'm pretty sure this was on Spoofee around Nov-Dec... at least I think.

Awwwwe... you did read my call for help thread. :-)

I feel better now.

Sweet, even if only 8GB - free is always good.

Why jailbreak? Similar to why climb a mountain. Because it's there. You can add a lot of free customizing tools and apps that Apple doesn't give away. Right now though, there is apparently a problem jailbreaking firmware 3.1.3. Apple came out with it to specifically foil jailbreaking. If you live on the "illegal" edge you can also find hacked apps and ways to get new movies and such (not that I would ever do anything like that). With iPhones you can also unlock them and make them usable with other carriers (which I wouldn't hesitate to do if I had one).
