Dear "Best of" Ready Launch Event Registrant,

We’re writing to let you know that there may have been an inaccurate reference on our website when you registered for the Best of SQL Server 2005 Launch event and/or the Best of Visual Studio 2005 Launch event.

The complementary software you will receive when you attend* either of these events is a complete version of Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005 Standard Edition and SQL Server™ 2005 Standard Edition, not Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition which was listed for a short period of time.

What cheap MF's... How can a big corporation like MS be so stingy? This is most unseemly. It literally costs them zero to give the Pro version.

They toss the word "partner" around (when referencing TSS's and System Builders) 'till you're sick of hearing it but when it comes time for MS to toss the partners a little bone they proceed to screw over their , (ahem) partners.

Totally bogus IMO. They pretend to kiss the collective butt of TSS's and SB's but then take the low road like this.

P*** on 'em. :thumbs_do

Who's stingy?

Who's the stingy one? The company who writes the software or the guy complaining about not getting what they clearly believe is a useful and quality application for free? :bs:
The cost of sending you a file or even a boxed copy is not the reason for the price tag...consider the probably 100 programmers that spend years of 60hr weeks developing it. You can only expect to pay 10 cents for a CD if the CD is only worth 10 cents. And if you cant afford to pay for the pro version yourself, you're probably not programming at a level that needs anything beyond standard anyways.

Nonsense, your argument is a red herring.

I've attended dozens of these seminars and they are first and foremost MS marketing events. The whole point of the System Builder and Tech Sales partner programs is to convert the attendee into a MS sales clone.

You are expected to join The Borg.

MS themselves doesn't care about the software (let alone the programmers), they are focused in how many copies you, their "partner" can sell for them.

The events are not quite hard core brain-washing as, say, an Amway indoctrination. They are informative and fun. Still you never forget that MS is pushing you to sell their product.

If they want you as a de facto saleman, they ought to give out the most advanced version of their product. This is whats called good business. Get the sales team hyped and exited. This is what MS has always done in fact.

Here is my theory - some new Whaton Business School graduate has been appointed head of marketing at MS. That person has dedided to institute new policies for the sake of change after reading about it in some grad school textbook.
