why can't stores teach associates the proper way to bag groceries. cold with cold, heavy items one to a bag and dbl bagged it , dbl bag canned goods etc. :(

When I read this title the only thing I could think of was the Dana Carvey skit, "She's Choppin Broccoli". I was thinking "She's Baggin Groceries".

I dont have any answer other than the kids today just dont care. They just want the paycheck, theyre not really there to provide any real 'service'. Plus it doesnt help that these people generally dont get paid enough to warrant them using their brains.

You mean eggs don't go on the bottom of the bag with the soup cans?

 Bagging groceries is a life lesson everyone should know.....

I dont know.. these things seem like common sense to me... but you know.. kids these days..

but then again, our parents said that about us..

Did you ever bag groceries Scoopy?

I was a 'master bagger' in my day...;)

Back in the day when I worked at a grocery store, you better believe they taught us how to bag groceries. And I still bag mine to this day the same way when I shop at Sam's Club or other places that don't bag.

It seems a matter of common sense. I never had anyone show me; but I know what to do.

Just the other day I had to tell the girl at Target not to put the draino in with my fresh fruit. She just looked at me, I don't think she got why.

Ahhh, Memories of my first job at Winn-Dixie, baggin groceries; gettin in the buggys, helping old ladies push their carts out and put the groceries in the car for them. I even learned how to tie a tie for that job. Now that I think about it, that was a life lesson job! Our first couple of days of training was up stairs in the break room practicing bagging groceries. Maybe these days they just start the kids on the floor.

Problem solved with two words:

self checkout! :bigok:

This isnt always an option though.....so I make sure I watch. I also put my groceries on the belt in "groups" - all frozen together, all breads, all cans.....it seems to help the whole process go faster and my stuff is bagged properly

I did have a girl one time try to put my fabric softner sheets in with my bread.....I would of had the freshest bread in town with no static cling!

i do that too k-ma. i also make sure to put the heavy items on first so that they go in the bottom of the cart and the bread, veggies, and fruit and the end of the belt so that they get put on top in the cart.

The bagging is not the only problem - customer service really sucks anymore.
The other day the only thing my cashier said to me was "credit or debit?"
When she handed me my receipt I said "thank you" she still said nothing!!! I wasnt having the best day so I said "You have a good day too!"
She looked at me like "what is your problem?"

i know people are rude. i eat at drive-throughs way to often and i hate when the give me my food and i say thank you and they say nothing. i usually say you're welcome loud enough for them to hear me before i drive off.

What I don't like the most is putting my bananas on top of the frozen food. They turn black and look yucky then!

Better having a bannana on top than on the bottom...

:05:

I always prefer my bannanas to be on top.

I'm male and therefore don't understand groceries and food storage, so someone please explain this to me:

A few weeks ago, while I was working out of town, I bought a hand of bananas to take along for lunch. I was working in the field, and had a cooler in my truck, filled with bottled water, various foodstuffs, and 40lbs of ice. I put the bananas in the cooler, knowing that you're not supposed to refrigerate them, but having no better storage spot. They stayed perfect, didn't get mushy or turn brown, for a full week!

That seems to be a common thing here lately. It seems that most of the younger people seem to think it is just a job I get paid no matter if they are friendly or not.

i always yell at them if they put anything with my chicken that's gross....
