As an FYI, the Linux community has really worked hard to change that. Many Linux drivers now exist for winmodems, specifically, the chipsets they use. Some manufacturers have also helped in this regard, by sharing some of the source, and, some haven't.
 
AVOID BEST DATA I have been trying to get a rebate from them since early NOV. Their 800 number is non functional and their email site is useless. I am wondering if they have gone out of business. :mad:
 
I finally heard via email from BestData. Seems they hope to start entering November! rebates in their database within the next few weeks. Is that a record for slow?
 
Best Data is up their with hival/iomagic/digital research in terms of rebates, ie, they are infamous for being slow as hell and/or not paying out on rebates. So generally, buy it if you need the modem, for 10 bucks that's pretty darn cheap, and if the rebate comes WHOOPEE!! If not. Well..depends on how much time ya want to spend working to get it.
 
Should we add Cendyne to that list? They are the only ones giving me troubles from Black Friday.
 
I ordered a bestdata modem in January and sent the rebate 1/17/03. I have emailed their web site 3 times and have recieved no response. Anyone know of another phone number to try? 1-800-503-2378 is useless as it's just an automated message.

I didn't have any problems getting my rebate from them for the same modem when I bough it back in November. Guess I'm just lucky.

Hrrm, what you talkin bout. Black Friday I got EVERY ONE of my rebates from Cendyne. I have bought 12 drives from them and everytime I have received their rebates.

Also, I bought one of these as part of a package deal, and I am selling it without rebates. Its on eBay now, with a starting bid of $.99. The auction is here

After 5 1/2 months of "we are behind, be patient" or the check is in the mail, I contacted Office Max and told them given Best Data's practices, all offers should be canceled and items removed from the shelves. Two days later I received an email that my check was indeed in the mail and I actually received it!
