HD is a Dead format ... BlueRay has Won

BLUERAY --> :boink: <-- HD :rip:

Just Like BetaMax

Completely agreed. Stores are just trying to get rid of their HD inventory now.

so Bluray is the declared winner in the war? i guess i chose the right side then (i bought a PS3 a few months back)

The only ones that the declared Blu-Ray the winner is the Blu-Ray consortium and they're trying to perpetuate the propaganda that HD-DVD is dead so that people will stay away from their competitor. I addition, Blu-Ray marketing reported Blu-Ray outsold HD by 93%-7% but we later find out that numerous Blu-Ray companies were giving away players, and then counted those gifts as (fallacious) sales.

The fact is that in January 2008, Blue-Ray sold 60% of the players and HD sold 40% and HD has strong backers, like Microsoft. To steal from Twain, reports of Hd-DVD's demise is exaggerated.

Let's remember that for 20 yrs Apple Macintosh has had a 15% marketshare and they didn't cave.

It seems to me that with BR players costing 2-3X what HD players cost this there are going to be two formats for a while.

That doesn't make any sense since stores are replenishing their inventory.

You're both wrong. :-) Toshiba may withdraw HD DVD format.

Ummm ... Yeaaaa ... WITHDRAW ... as in they know they have lost!

I have been reading about this for a few months now on several tech blogs, for example, I visit Gizmodo, Engadget, OhGizmo!, TechEBlog and read all the new tech news and hear about all the new things coming out.

This has been a slow decline for Toshiba, blue ray has been increasing in popularity for a while now. At least they have the grace to bow out, unlike BetaMax back in the 80s, they kept fighting. Too bad BetaMax lost, it was the better format, but thanks to the Porn industry for making VHS the standard.
