Bestbuy - Panasonic DMP-BD30K Blu-ray Player + 2 Movies for $449.99

Not a great deal when you factor in the cost of a 40GB PS3 that can do more which is $400. Also to note, the PS3 has DivX/Xvid playback capability with the latest firmware update.
 
I wonder when we will start to see real deals on these blu-ray players...400bucks is a rip off.
 
Agreed. I won't even touch one until they come down in price, similar to the regular DVD format stuff. Being an early adopter costs lots of $$$.
 
If I were to go out and get a player now, I would get a PS3 for one reason alone, its firmware can be updated. They are still tweaking the Bluray standard and if new features are added, people with standalone players are SOL, where as the PS3 would simply get a firmware update and it would have the new feature. Also, I hear that the PS3 loads disks much faster since processors in standalone players are trimmed down to the minimum needed to play the disks.
 
Agree...PS3 still best for the money...and I don't even like $ony.
 
Rumor has it that folks who purchased an HD-DVD player @ CC within the past 90 days can return it for a refund towards a purchase of a Blu-ray player.
