Have tried the tech forums lately & had no luck. There is a password set for the BIOS screen that I think the previous owner set up. I need to know if there is some way to bypass this, so that I can get into the BIOS setup.
There is no way to contact this owner since I bought the computer from someone that had gotten it from them. I see no reset switch either.
Appreciate any help at all.

The easiest way to reset the BIOS password. Unplug the computer. Pull out the battery of the motherboard. Wait about an hour or two. Replace the battery and plug in the computer. That should clear it.

You so smart. Lets hope theyre comfortable digging in the guts.

And let us not forget the "extra piece" that is always found on the table (that you don't remember taking out or what the heck it is)

I had two screws left over when I reassembled my laptop. It works just fine, so I consider it a success.

If you don't have something left over, you probably put it back together wrong.

Thanks Spaz
I will try this Friday when I get bored & need something to do. I'll let everyone know if it works.

I really don't enjoy it when people want computer tech answers & don't even say what kind of computer they have.

Also, if you put on your glasses and look really hard at the mother board, there will be some little prongs with a plastic piece ( called jumper) on the prongs. Written on the Mother board should be the words "bios or Cmos Reset". You can take the jumper off, boot your pc, Turn the PC back off, put the jumper back on and then boot the pc again. If all went well, your bios will be reset.

Just wanted to comment on a few of the answers I got:
morriefisher: I don't really enjoy people who know more wanting to nitpick because someone forgot to say what kind of computer they are talking about, but since you seem to KNOW EVERYTHING, my computer is pieces of different brands, not just one kind.

Brother Ron: I don't wear glasses & even if I did, I didn't know to look there since I haven't had computer tech classes or someone around me that works on computers. But I will try this & see if it works.

I was originally going to suggest the CMOS jumper reset, but not all motherboards have them. That's why it is usually easier to just pull out the battery and let it reset itself.

Connie, I forgot you'll have to change the time to the current time too.

Thanks Spaz. I am waiting to remove the battery until the computer cools down some. It took me forever to remember what I had to push on the keyboard to get to the BIOS screen to begin with.

Thanks for understanding that not everyone was born w/a computer chip for a brain & we sometimes don't know everything about them.

:convinced: that's odd......I thought we all had a computer chip in the brain and a left telescoping eye.........

ALIEN!!! :faint: :camera: :hahaha:

sorry......:focus:

Now children...

This is a valid thread...it is not the "Beat up on a Spoofee member" thread.

That's okay. I can just feel the love. :verysad:

Thanks for trying to help, but I think I will just give up a while. The battery thing didn't work & I haven't found anything that looks like a jumper, but I kept getting a slight shock every time I touched the metal casing, so I think I will wait a loooongggg time before I look at it again.
I think the harddrive & motherboard are from a compaq, not sure about the rest of the computer.

Connie, if youre willing to take another look at the motherboard, heres an example. These pics are of an old Dell MB I'm trowing out and your jumper may not be exactly where this one is, but youll have an idea of what youre looking for.. Picture One is of the whole MB, Picture Two is a little closer in showing the jumper's placement relative to the battery, and Picture Three is a nice closeup of the jumper and its label. Hope they help.

But if you knew the computer, you'd know what kind of Bios it has. Then you could use the master bios PW on it & be done. For example, someone with an AMI bios could use AMI for the pw.
