It's just a OB II reader, they are pretty common. Get one at Autozone or Kragen.

Also depends on the year of your car.

For as rare as the check engine light turns on, I would recommend going to autozone and asking them to run their diagnostic on your car - sure, you can save 25% buy purchasing this deal, or you can save 100% by NOT purchasing this deal. Now, obviously, to a mechanic or car enthusiast, it wouldn't make sense to drive to Autozone all the time, but for us common-folk...save your money!

I think it's a great tool for the common folk. I would want the advantage of knowing what's wrong with my car before taking it to the mechanic personally.
 
Yes, that is why you should have one. There is a connector under the car hood where you plug it in.

Try kragen.com they probably have some around this price. But I'd suggest a better model, some connect to your laptop I think & give a better reading.
