Black Friday Sale - 2004 (November 26th)

Sigh. I wonder what the deal is with that 27" Apex TV at BestBuy. Last year I tried to pick up one for my parents for $120 or something and they had like eight when the store opened and I got there like 15 minutes after the store opened. I wonder if I could reserve one or something, $90 is a great price. My parents just need something with closed captioning for late at night and a sleep timer. Ever since their 32" Sony blew out, the Sylvania 26" circa 1985 doesn't do the trick.

what you do is buy it first, then go back later and price match it.

Haha...

I don't think they have them in stock right now though.

I have a question...

I never even heard of black friday until I yesterday when I saw it mentioned here. (Keep in mind I'm 24 and don't have the money to shop a lot) Do you think that you'll be able to buy online at the black friday prices instead of having to go into the stores? I'm not a big fan of crowds :hmm:

Doesn't usually work that way.

Unfortunately they make you suffer for the deals. I would love to avoid it too.
But the price matching idea is pretty good. :hmm:

Nope. Everything has its price. Such as sleep deprivation and loss of dignity.

Two pack of 50 DVD-RW's - Save $60
Doom 3 - Save $20
27" Apex Television - Save $120

Waking up at 4 AM the day after Thanksgiving to wait in the cold at the entrance of a store with 100 other people who are equally determined to snag what you also want, only to get swamped in the store, pick up half of what you wanted, and wait 2 hours in a line that extends to the next zip code, only to be stuck behind the only person in the state that still writes checks at stores.... - Pointless

;)

Another suggestion: if you're looking for something smallish in size, and worried that the item will sell out quickly, then go to the store the day before (er, prolly Wednesday in this case), and take one of the items and hide it somewhere else in the store where it's not likely to be found.

A buddy last year wanted a hard drive on sale at BB for some stupidly low price, so he ganked one before the big day and stashed it inside the freezer section of a crappy refridgerator elsewhere on the floor. He went back leisurely late in the day on Black Friday, strolled to the fridge, found his hard drive (last one remaining, to be sure), and got a great deal.

This won't work on plasma TV's and computers, of course. :P

"to wait in the cold at the entrance of a store with 100 other people"

100..?...must have been easily 1000+ people at Best Buy when I got there 5 min.
before it opened. The line went for like a couple hundred yards. Before the store
opened they passed out flyers that you could redeem for the best items. Fortunately
someone had an extra and gave me theirs so I could get the computer I am
writing this on for $200 after rebates.

Hi there! Are these lists usually accurate? Last year I didnt find one thing on the list to be on sale i was very disapointed. I shopped at target. Thank you, LAcopswife

Okay.. I've been doing this Black Friday gig for the last 3 years.. Last year was cool as I had a team-mate! Definitely get one if you want to hitup more then one store.. Older kids are great for this.. Hey, they gotta serve some purpose, right? ;)

With respect to the Apex 27" TV.. My team-mate last year was stationed outside Circuit City to snag 2 of these babies for $120 each while I waited over at BB. Both TV's were gift items and shipped out of state. Here's the warning.. The first TV's Tuner failed within a month, the second TV's Tuner (shipped further mind you) failed within 6 months.. This kinda ticked me off.. I also had purchased a Apex DVD player at CC a few years ago for my mom, it failed earlier this year. The TV's didn't come with a waranty card or contact info either. So I'd steer clear of Apex stuff..

One thing I noted last year considering I stayed up all morning, and all day, was bearing the cooler weather and initial lines is far better then trying to battle the lines and wore out employees later in the day. For example, I waited in line before the store opened, when I got to hit the entrance, I bumrushed what I wanted and hitup the line.. I had my stuff within 5min, and spent another 30 or so in line to checkout. Later that day, I walked back in to see methotical lines placed everywhere, wore out employees (which were very nice that morning) and @$$ customers who were pissed because what they wanted was either gone or they had to wait in line for anything to happen.

I ain't gonna reveal any secrets of BF other then two things.. Know what you want, and the early bird gets the worm..

I'd also advise against trying to pricematch, a couple places are cool about it, the rest aren't that helpfull.. Unless the place your at vs the place with the best price is out of range geographically, I'd just drive around hitting up place by place. Helps if you have a wife or gf with a car as you can split up.

So, get stuffed (with dinner), powernap and wear warm clothes. Remember to bring your patience along with you, it helps.. Rememeber, everyone's in the same boat as you, there's no need to get nasty.

Happy (early) Holidays!

4am man if I am not at the store by 4am i am not going to get anything. Last year it rained on me for 2 hours solid. Wow that sucked. But I will do it again.

DAMN OPTIX!!!!! that's an awesome Idea. Will try it out for sure this year. Of course if it doesn't work this will quickly become a flame....... ;)
