Have a question for anyone that has had braces, or their child has had.
My son got braces Tues. That night he had excruciating pain, said it felt like someone was pulling his teeth out. How long does this take to stop feeling this bad. He has never been one to let pain or even being sick stop him, but it had him almost in tears. Not as bad tonight, but still severe enough to keep him awake.

With my son he was in pain for about 7-10 days after he got them on. The Dr. said it was due to the teeth being pulled by the wires and gave him a prescription for pain pills. Your son will probably have to keep going in and having them tightened. Did the Dr. give him anything for pain?

I called them to try to get something for him Wed, but they said to give him what he normally takes for pain, because they don't usually call in pain meds. I think he is having pain also because he needs 2 teeth pulled in order for the tooth they are trying to bring down to have room. They shouldn't have put the braces on before having those teeth pulled.

One DR. wanted to pull teeth on my son, the other said no need to pull them. I went with the DR. who said no need to pull and everything worked out just fine, his teeth are now perfect and he did not have to have any pulled except for his wisdom teeth. The day the DR removed the braces he told me to go get his wisdom teeth pulled, so I did. :)

Good luck and I hope the pain quickly goes away for him.

My daughter CRIED her first night with her braces and I called the folowing morning and asked for something for the pain and they wouldn't give her anything either, said to try Tylenol(which I already had and it had done nothing) after about 4 days she didn't feel as much pressure and got used to them. His first tightening might once again leave him uncomfortable ,try giving him some tylenol BEFORE he goes for that appointment, that should help a little bit.

similar experience here. my daughter was in pain for about 4-5 days, but by the end of the first week, she was ok. every time she goes in to have them tightened (as she did just yesterday), she's sore for a couple days, but boy is it worth it! she's got just one year left and her teeth look beautiful already!

"to have any pulled except for his wisdom teeth. "

Its really not necessary to take those out. If they are working fine, just keep them. They are pretty useful.

Are you kidding or serious?

Usually people have them taken out before they even come in and are actually used so it's hard to understand what you mean by "working fine."

Actually, if your braces are taken off before your wisdom teeth come in, which is usually the case, it is usually necessary to take the wisdom teeth out or they will cause your teeth to shift and mess up all the alignment that came from having the braces. Then the braces would have been a big waste of money, time, and pain killer meds.

Actually when I had mine pulled out, my dentist said that if the
Wisdom Teeth don't come in rotten, impacted and if there is enough room, then they don't need to come out.

I have my wisdom teeth on the bottom. The two on top I had to get pulled because they were coming in crooked. I do have a big mouth so there was plenty of room to spare.

I feel for you. I only had to get one removed. It seems my other 2 had come in as replacement teeth. My 17 yr old is just getting his first one, only he has too small a mouth(amazing, because he is the loudest person around).

Actually I should correct myself...I have one wisdom tooth on the bottom...the other has yet to come in all the way. I think it's weird that I am 27 and haven't got all my wisdom teeth in yet.

I was in my early thirties when one came thru and the others were impacted and I had to have them all removed(worst pain I have ever been thru in my entire life, and I have a HIGH pain tolerance,I would rather give birth then go thru that again)

Sure Im serious. As a matter of fact, Im quoting what I read in the dentists' office's magazine.

I still have all my wisdom teeth......not a problem....never needed braces and my teeth are very straight too. ;)

I don't believe it Preco. You might want to post a pic so we can see. ;)
