Are there any free or cheap caller id services for home telephones? My phone company charges too much for it.

I didn't know you could get caller ID service from someone other than your phone company?

I don't know if you can. I know you can get long distance service from someone other than your phone company, and Internet from different sources as well. My phone company charges around 10.00 extra from caller ID.

Maybe you should consider changing companies. ;)

Yeah, if you have telephone choice in your area, check it out.

I use VoIP and have completely dumped my landline and overall, I'm quite happy considering the savings.

My Dad doesn't have caller ID Service, he says he's not afraid to answer the phone

I agree! If you have a Cable Modem, or Naked DSL, your all set!
Saves you some money, and you can't beat the features for the price!!

I have Vonage and I am very happy with them..Just wish they had ACR.

Yea i have lingo...19.95 a month (like 22 bucks with takes) unlimited anywhere in the US and canada, it has caller id and call waiting and all those features other companies charge you for....

and even if you are to cheap to spend 30 or 40 bucks for dsl or cable...if you switched to cable or dsl and got lingo or vonage (voip) for 20 bucks.... 50 bucks total for your unlimited phone calls and internet service a month isnt bad at all....

Our phone bill with verizon was $80 a month and only had 30 min long distance a month....it sucked...although it is spotty service with my voip (because my cable provider sucks...wish verizon dsl would venture to the boondocks....) but 20 bucks compare to 80 (w/o long distance) is awesome!

Where I live, we can't get DSL or cable, even cell phones usually don't pick up well out here. Can't even get the high speed dial-up my Internet co. offers. Will not work out here. Have only found 1 or 2 places to get my phone service from out here; the 1 I use now or Alltel.

Between Irvine, Richmond and Berea. Takes me a good 15-20 minutes to get to town. But I do love the country. Ky is a beautiful place. Lived in Ky since 91, from Miss.(horrible place to live or visit)!!

Yea, I'm from Owensboro, I was just up there last month, my grandmother has a friend that lives in Paintsville, who writes a column for the Paintsville Herald, and we stayed in Prestonsburg, it was the weekend they had some kind of parade, and we drove through Van Lear and all of those other mining towns, and when we were coming back, we drove through Richmond, and all through there, it was a beautiful trip, right when the leaves were changing

I have Voip through Time Warner cable. Free caller id.

It seems you can't get caller id unless you go thru your phone co. Mine only charges me 26.99 for local + free call waiting, but they want $36 to add caller id, then $12 extra per month. There is no directory asst.(pay by month company). Alltel gave me good deal today and since husband is disable Vet. they will wave the deposit and pay half the connection fee. Too good to pass up. Also get caller id, call waiting for about $32 per month. Thanks for everyones input.
