Thanks! Picked one of these babies up!

Great camera....love the optical zoom. I have a good 6mp camera, but only has a 3x optical zoom.....makes for fuzzy pics when zoomed in.

Ordered one, been waiting a long time for this camera to have a deal again/Thanks for the tip!

Dell says, "Sleek, powerful and sophisticated, ..."

Sleek? Look at that thing, thats not what I call sleek. Its so big, and bulky.

Let me say, Im not knocking the camera. I would love a 12x optical, and a lens that big has to have a big housing for it to fit; Im just saying its not what I think of when I think of sleek.

it's small and sleek........for an SLR. :)

another great thing about this camera....you can change lenses! It takes great pics.

I took a trip to Mt. Rainier the other day and snapped a few photos....

Ive never thought of a 5MP camera as an SLR. But maybe thats just me. I know about film cameras, so I know that SLRs are different, but I still think that an SLR would have a much higher resolution that 5MP. To me (and my admittedly limited research) this is just an advanced point and shoot.

"SLR" is just the body style. Separate body w/ interchangable lenses. Point and shoots are wysiwyg, a smaller body with internal lenses.

Yeah, as I said, Im aware that theyre different but interchangable lenses is not the defining aspect of an SLR. Having a Single Lens Reflector (which is what SLR stands for) is. This camera is not an SLR.

Having now done a little more reading on this particular camera, Canon makes DSLRs, but this aint one of them. If you go to the Canon site, every EOS is labelled as an SLR, this camera is not. If this was an SLR, you can bet that Canon would label it as such. Go to the review site Steve's Digicams and youll see that its reviewed in the 5MP category instead of the DSLR category. Should I continue?

You're right....this isn't a true SLR camera and it requires an adapter to change the lens. However it does have a SLR body style....and you can change lenses.....which is what I was commenting about in the "sleek and sophisticated" aspect.....where this discussion started.

I'll change my comment.....It's sleek for an SLR body style. Should I continue?

Please dont. Im totally over your uninformed, assumptive opinions. SLR is not a 'body style'. Maybe you could do some actual research and then continue if you like.

Of course, I will now be unsubbing from the thread so I wont be subjected to your pending oral diarrhea...

Ok, maybe that was a bit harsh....

When you learn how to comprehend english and learn how to conduct your pathetic self....get back to me.

BTW.....if you can show me an SLR camera with a different BODY STYLE made in the last 10 years....hell, 20 years. I'd like to see it.

ANYWAY, has anyone here tried the Sony DSC-H1? I've been thinking about getting either this Canon or the Sony H1, both seem good, but dang...decisions decisions, why can't I have both?

I've had an S2 IS since last September. It DOES NOT have interchangeable lenses. There are add on Wide and Telephoto adapters. That is not anything like removable lenses on a real SLR.

However, I love the camera and it not only takes great still photos, but has a great movie mode. With my 2 GB SD memory cards, I can take a large number of stills and movies. It uses AA batteries, not one of those expensive proprietary types.

Here's one of the reviews that convinced me to buy it: Canon PowerShot S2IS Review

I paid $453 for mine, $304 is a great price, unless you want to save up for the new 6MP Canon Powershot S3 IS

I purchased one on the last deal. I live outside the US so I have not received it yet. My sister is coming down to visit me on Monday so I will have it then. Since I do not have it I can not comment on its actual use. However I came to several conclusions in the extensive research that I did before I made the decision to purchase one.
Before I start my list let me make a comment about some previous statements:
This camera is not an slr. You could say that it kind of looks like one, but it is not one.

1. I believe at this price point it is the best camera you can buy.
If you want to spend $100 more then you might have to do some real comparison shopping but at just over $300 there is nothing that competes with it. There is a Panasonic that you can get at about $360 that is supposed to compete with it. I compared them. The main reason I immediately throw out the Panasonic is that I want a fast camera. With the Panasonic you can only take 7 pictures in continuous mode. 7 pictures!!!! How lame is that. Other than that they are very very close. But to me that was a big deal.

2. This is a very fast camera. Its focus, picture to picture speed and start up time are awesome. The best thing about digital is take a million pic's and keep only the good ones. I bought a high speed 2gb sd card on newegg for $71. They will continue to drop in price as well.

3. This camera has great video.

4. Don't try to compare it to a $700 SLR it is not one. But I dare you to compare it to any digital camera at $430 or less and you almost have to say it is no contest. The Canon s2 rocks everything close to it.

5. It is a very small sleek camera compared to other 12X zoom cameras..lol..look at some of the pics where the camera is inside someone’s hand.

6. Lastly I didn't want to spend $300 on a digital camera so going $100-$300 more for something maybe a little better but most likely not was not much of a decision for me. I agonize over expensive purchases doing as much research as posible this camera made it easy for me to make the decision. Nothing holds a candle to it anyware near this price.

7. I read that you really need a high speed sd card at least 66X write speed. Watch out.... you will need to do your research many cards might claim 133X or something but that could be only the read speed. At 2.6fps pic speed you need a fast write card.

Hope all this info helps.
God Bless
