We're shopping around for new car insurance.

Anybody love or hate their carrier?

We have Cincinnati Casualty now. We picked them because they were a A-rated (was it 5 A's- they were high on some kind of rating system  ) carrier. We've never had to any claims and the cost with them is getting pretty high. I punched in our coverage into Geico & Progressive and their quotes are 1/3 to 1/2 of what we are paying now for the exact same coverage. I'm just wary of going with an "advertised low-cost option" carrier like those. If we ever had to do any claims, I don't want to regret going with the cheapest option.

Any thoughts, anyone?

This will be brief because I have to go home now, but I have and LOVE GEICO. They are excellent in every respect. Plus they offer Roadside Assistance (similar to AAA except no directions and maps) for only around $14 a year if I recall correctly.

I've tried calling GEICO and some of those other heavily-advertised companies, and they want about three (3) times what I currently pay through Allstate. Mind you, I've been driving over 16 years and have never had a ticket or accident. Plus, I've gone through defensive driving courses through the county as I drive county vehicles. Really, cost is just one thing to look at as you've determined. I've not had any issues with Allstate and when we were with State Farm a while back, our house claims for flood were settled within a couple of days. I'd recommend both Allstate or State Farm.

We are with State Farm for both our Auto and Home owners insurance. About a year and a half ago we were involved in a 6 car pileup on local tollway that totaled our truck. After calling State Farm we had a check in our hands in two weeks for the full amount of the truck and it was about 3k more than I had estimated from bluebook.com and a few other sites. I am very satisfied with State Farm and highly recommend them.

As a side note I have called Geico and a couple other carriers and they were not able to beat the price of SF.

I was with 21st Century Insurance and was happy, but, like some of these other people, I've never had a ticket or accident (well, not since I was 16 LOL)
We just switched to AAA cuz it wasn't a whole lot more than what I was paying through 21st and you're also paying for the peace of mind, knowing that you've got a reliable insurance company. A girl Todd works with bought a new car and hadn't reported it yet to her (cut-rate) insurance company. well she didn't realize she doesn't have that automatic coverage for 30 days like AAA does... anyway, she got hit by an unlicensed, uninsured driver (illegal immigrant too :34:) ... so now she's out the money and up a creek.
I've heard Geico is good... State Farm, Allstate, and AAA would be the safest bet, though. Good luck!

I use The Hartford, through their AARP program, which my father is old enough to get a discount through. You don't need to be an AARP member, you just need to be old enough. Either way, Hartford has been very good to us. The rates are really good and customer service has been solid thusfar.

lol realized that wasn't supposed to say :34:) but :34: )
doh!

wow spazntwitch 16 years. WHOAH!!!!!! I bet you must have paid enough insurance money to cover the cost of a BRAND NEW vehicle. My insurance which is about 1000 a year is driving me NUTS. I was thinking of just buying a Bicycle!! :) YEAH Bicycle's RULE! :) Hope no law changes which requires me to insure them ........................ as i might need one in College!!!!

cobrac46, why so expensive?

Driving my 92 Mitsu Diamante costs me $363 a year under my parent's plan, I'm a young driver. It's a really good deal.

i switched from sky high geico to getting ripped off by progressive after an accident. im thinking of going to mercury next..

if im gonna get ripped off on the premiums i pay every month i might as well find someone with lower premiums.

progressive: claims (not at fault):thumbs_do :thumbs_do, rates: ok
geico: claims (not at fault): ok, rates: :thumbs_do :thumbs_do

My girlfriend's family is with State Farm and they're quite happy, although the premiums are outrageous. However, I think that with going to an outfit like State Farm, you get better customer service. If customer service is more important to you than premiums, then State Farm is the way to go.

I've heard good things from my friend about Allstate, he uses them for home insurance and auto insurance. Not sure what his premiums are like... However, Hartford has been great for me so far, I have no desire to switch.

I went from $320 a year to $270 a year when I told them I only drive 2,000 miles per year.

Yeah, I think my coverage is a 3,000 mile a year plan or something. Not even sure. ;)

Thanks for all the help!

:60: Hugs all around! :60:

The company (middle man service reps) that we have Cincinnati Casualty with has gotten back to us with a quote from Hartford that blows even Geico & Progressive away by $50-$100. Boy- now I feel like I've been getting fleeced for the past couple years! If you haven't checked out competetive rates in a couple years, I recommend doing so!

We're checking around to see about combining our homeowner's insurance with our car insurance now.

I'll keep everyone posted!!!

i have state farm too and i like it.

Definitely keeping car and home under one insurance roof is certainly a great idea. You get much better deals that way.

yeah, i have life insurance and car insurance and all that under one and my rates went way down.

With insurance, you pretty much get what you pay for. Mercury is also cheap, but then don't forget the first sentence.
