mrmeme, the stuff u listed is from last weekend. om webside just still didnt get updated for today. u better make sure all those rebates r valid for today.

BaBy_LoC86, not all cd-rw from cendyne are lite-ons. And even if u see a lite-on serial, there's a chance they might ship u other one. but anyway, there is nothin wrong with non-liteon drives.

Regarding cendyne, sometimes liteon, sometimes acer, hell sometimes optorite. It's an incorrect thing to say cendynes "are" made by liteon cause maybe not.

Ways to tell a liteon, this applies to various rebadged drivers from buslink, cendyne, yo mama, whoever.

#1 - It says smartburn technology on the box.

#1a - If it says justlink, it's not a liteon but an acer likely.

#2 - If as you noted the model starts with LTR, but then, not all the time for all the rebadgers of liteon burners do they slap LTR on the outside/back of the back.

#2a - If it says like 4824P or 4824 then it's likely not a liteon.

#3 - If the serial number is 16 digits, all numbers, NO letters, it's probably a liteon.

#3a - If the serial number has letters, chances are strong it's not a liteon.

What you get is random, based upon the pick when it's shipped, or the store, or region. In my local OM's case, they keep all the drives behind the counter AND only the manager can pick them out, so my manager won't look thru 20 drives for me based upon serial numbers for example. By contrast, at staples you can look thru the inventory and cherry pick the liteons.

Even if you see 1 or more of these indicators, it's still no guarantee, it's a lot like a grab bag. If you use these indicators, you increase your odds of 'winning' a liteon, but, they can put whatever the hell they want in the box pretty much<G>

Liteons are popular because clonecd and other proggies like it favor it, it can burn certain copy mechanisms that other brands can't. Otherwise, I've read many a user comment that the acer's are quieter than the liteons and are as a result preferred, so if you don't plan on making lotsa "backups" then maybe liteon isn't such a big deal.
