Comcast Cable is offering High-Speed Cable Internet Access for $19.99/month for the first 6 months (offer expires 4/30/06). This deal is available only to existing Comcast TV Cable Customers.

Included with this offer are:
•a Free Cable Modem after rebate
•a Free Wireless Router after rebate
•$50 Cash Back after rebate

SBC Yahoo! DSL currently has a promotion for new customers: $12.99/month or go pro (faster) for $17.99/month. This *seems* to require a 12 month contract. Note: You need to be an SBC phone service customer. Other monthly charges apply. See site for details.

*Note: Current SBC Yahoo! customers who have higher monthly rates can call 1-877-SBC-DSL5 (1-877-722-3755) and ask to speak with a Customer Care Specialist to have their rate lowered. Most likely will have to go on another contract.

Just got the SBC deal for $19.95/mo.

Called the number mentioned above, asked about the $19.95/mo plan for existing customers.

The CSR told me it is for people who have All-Distance plan, or for new enrollments.

So I told him I was trying to decide between going Comcast or SBC DSL, since the price is $19.95/mo for Comcast, since my contract is running out (which is all true). He then said "Let me see what I can do for you, hang on one moment". 15secs later, he said he can get me the $19.95/mo rate. It still requires a 1 year contract and is $200 penalty if you cancel early (which means if you don't cancel within the first month, don't cancel at all, since $200 is 10 months of service).

The DSL support number (above) has voice command. It was really cool.

Since your contract is running out (less than a month left ? ), you were given $19.95/mo deal as a contract renewal. That's not surprising me. However, for SBC Yahoo DSL subscribers who have been paying $26.95/mo and whose contracts are not running out (still have many months left), I doubt if they could hear this "Let me see what I can do for you" from SBC Yahoo reps, SBC Yahoo wouldn't make adjustment (down to $19.95 from $26.95), those subscribers would have to wait till their contract near the end and make a call to SBC Yahoo DSL and ask for (new) lower deal ($19.95/mo).

With Comcast it's easy for existing Customers to get a much better deal. Call M-F during standard business hours. When first Rep answers, ask for Retention department. Rep asks why, say a Rep last night told me to ask for them today. If you're not transferred & current Rep trys to 'talk you', hang up & try back later (Retention lines were prob busy). Reular Reps can't give you as good a deal usually as Retention can.

When u get Retention: I see SBC Yahoo ad for $19.99 & I see Comcast new customer ad for $19.99 & I'm paying $45.95/43.95??? I don't want to continue this way. You're usually asked: you're planning to disconnect your service? You must say YES. You'll get a much better deal. You can do this after:
you've been a Customer for 6+ months.
it's been 6+ months since you've completed/finished any Retention offer.

Now :-) before you accept Retention's offer, ask: What about my very high Cable TV rate? I see a DISH ad for blahblah$. Sometimes you'll get a break on this too.

maybe i was "lucky", because that was my situation, and i had no difficulty asking the Customer Care Specialist to lower my rate.

i had the deal for SBC Yahoo's DSL for $26.95/mo for about 4 months, and was able to switch to the $19.95/mo deal when it was offered (& i didn't need to have their all-distance service). http://www.spoofee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16799

btw, it needs to be a customer care specialist you speak with. the regular csr's aren't able to adjust the rates as easily as the Customer Care Specialists can.)

will talk to SBC Yahoo customer care specialist soon

Hmm ... will try again ... must request SBC Yahoo customer care specialist ...

sbc is better, the comcast is only for first 6 months, the rest you have to pay more with those "pay more" money you could get alot more than just a cheap mp3 and digital camera

Why did a post from May show up now? Also, I'm not happy with my SBC as I get disconnected all the time. I'm wondering if I can get out of my contract somehow and join up with Comcast instead. Any ideas?

I got the Comcast HSI service last July during the promotion
that had 6/mth/$19.95, free modem, and $100 rebate.

I'm very satisfied with the service and have had no downtime, but
I'm not staying when the price goes back to $60/mth. unless they
give me a great deal.

I'll probably go with Verizon DSL since they have this deal:
$14.95/mth for 1 yr, $19.95 shipping fee for modem and install.
kit, and $100 rebate. You must signup through Dell Home Systems.

Works out to about $8.33/mth., which is pretty good deal for DSL.

How comcast works is that after the 6 month deal of 19.99 is over, you are allowed to call into there office and request another 6 months of 19.99, they will then tell you they can't do that of course, so you say you would like to change the name of the person on the bill because its' for new customers only not new households. They usually say well I can't do that let me see what I can do, after a few seconds they won't even bother with the name change they will just give it to you for 19.99 for another 6 months. Or if people have been paying the regular price for 3 months and have no outstanding balances on their account, they can call in and they will automatically give you the 19.99 (they informed me about that when I called in) for another 6 months.

If you have DSL right now and wish to have cable instead all you got to do is call comcast, tell them you want to switch dsl to cable and they will ask you to verify that you have or had dsl. They will give you a price of 19.99 for the whole year instead after they have verified you were a dsl customer with SBC or verizon.

Hope this helps.

I did that Comcast deal awhile ago, they require you to show 3 months of bills for the rebate... the only issue was that I never received recipts for the modem, and the cash back applied to online orders and you need to supply a printed out confirmation page... I had called them to order and the guy never implied that I wouldn't get the money so I don't have all the documentation to get the rebate... I haven't called to try and straighten it all out yet though...

Just FYI in case

I did the Comcast deal about a little over a month ago. My modem came with a receipt and I was only required to send one month's bill for the cash back so I was able to send it in after only a few weeks. I'm still waiting for the rebates so we'll see what happens...

I'm very happy with my service -- it includes a self-install kit for free and you can call and they'll walk you through the installation over the phone if you run into trouble. They've been nothing but helpful!

That Verizon deal sounds pretty good.

I signed up for basic SBC phone service for about $9 per month with a long distance package (probably unnecessary) for another $8. After taxes and fees, my phone bill is about $20 per month. Then I called about DSL service, and they said it was $14.95 per month for telephone subscribers who had the voicemail/call waiting package. I didn't have those features (why pay more for features that have been around for 20 years?), but they gave me the cheaper DSL rate anyway. My total SBC bill for phone and DSL is $40.40. Not bad. I still get Comcast calls (because I have cable with them) offering me a "special deal" for internet at $43 per month. I tell them to get a clue.

I called SBC DSL and asked for $16.95 per month for 6 month since my 1 year contract($26.95) is expiring in 3 days, got refused. So I terminated the service after my 1 year contract fullfilled. Then went to OD next day and sign up SBC DSL back as a new customer, qualified for a $75 giftcard from OD after rebate. Also get a free after rebate DSL modem(requires $12.95 shipping and tax).

OD($75), BB($75) and CC($25-$125) also offer giftcard if you sign up high speed Internet in store.

Use this link so see what you qualify for, http://sbc.com/upgradeoffer . My dad had the $26.95 a month deal, and we went to that link and got the lower price of $12.99. Our contract was going to be up in June, but since we did this, we got another year added. Fine with me, beats paying $19.99+ for dial up...

Well I tried geo's link and I get this message

¹Upgrades to a higher speed service plan depend on customer location in relation to customer's serving central office. Service not available in all areas.

and the upgrade price is set at the standard 34.95/mo so now I'll try the CS number and see if we can get and upgrade to pro. keep my fingers crossed on this one!

When my SBC contract was ending in March, I called DSL support and asked if I could renew it for $12.99 for 1 more year and he said its online only deal for new customers and mine could be renewed for $25/month if wanted. I asked if I could cancel and become a new member again and he said yes. I canceled my dsl after the contract end date, waited for 3 weeks and ordered online for $12.99/month. Of course I had to pay for the new modem [its free after MIR, but $13 for shipping] and my dsl has been setup. I could even xfer my old dsl email addr to my new dsl account.

Only hitch was, when they tried to activate dsl on my phone line, my phone line went dead for a couple of days before they could fix it.
