Regional Sale?

None of our local Staples have that model, never heard of it, etc. They have a FS for 399.99 though

Its not on Staples.com either, nor any of the other Office stores. It does exist though, as there are used ones on Amazon.com. It actually had pretty good reviews.

I wouldn't go nuts with this one though. What with all the excellent 17" monitors out there going for at most $69 to $89.

If someone has it for say under $200 and you use the $150 coupon then you have a good deal, otherwise forget it.

Hmmm.. They are probably sold out. This is a clearance sale and was going on for over 6 weeks now.

got 2

picked up two...nice deal...one more left in MD

Just got one.
I went one store and they REFUSED the coupon, so I went to the another store and got the monitor without a fight.
The monitor looks pretty good along with a set of nice spks.

I went out tonight and there are a couple in my local Staples. It is a big mutha though, the cabinet seems huge compared to the Samtron I got at OD a couple of months ago.

I will probably pick it up anyways, put together a nice system and sell it. Theres always a friend who is looking for a computer.

Was planning to put together a computer and sell it on ebay. But I really needed the parts for myself and kept all the parts for my rig. :P

FOUND ONE I think, problems ahead?

Finally found a monitor while visiting another part of our state Before I cut up the box, how do I know for sure that the FS740 qualifies? Nowhere on the COMPAQ site could I find this particular monitor listed. Must be old, WIN98SE can't see it as a PNP, just loads default monitor. COMPAQ email support line wasn't working today. As long as it says FS am I save in sending in the UPC etc for a rebate?

Coln,

It's quite the opposite. What is old in your equation is windows 98se. Not the monitor. Windows 98 can only recognize, or plug 'n' pray as most know it, monitor models that are in it's monitor INF database.
Considering that this database would have been part of the windows installation of the time, it'd be almost 4 years old now, so this means it can't plug and pray anything that came after it.

Same goes for all hardware. Windows98/98se can plug and play an old 16 bit soundblaster just fine with it's own drivers, it can't do the same for an audigy, sblive, or turtle beach santa cruz. So is an audigy or an audigy 2 old?

Why is this? These things didn't exist when it (windows98) came out, windows can't see into the future and have driver support years in advance of a product coming out.

Kinda like how word 97 can't correctly open/deal with the formatting of a word2002 document.

Making sense to ya?

Your solution is simple. Just get the monitor drivers from compaq or HP. They can be tricky to find sometimes, BUT, they can be found. Yes, that's right, monitors have drivers, although these drivers basically just tell windows it's model XYZ and what resolutions and refresh rates it can do. It's an INF file and perhaps a few others, very small, with easy instructions on how to install.

Staples is a retailer? Yes

Staples is a CLUB or WAREHOUSE retailer? No

Sams, BJs, etc are warehouse/club retailers.

Otherwise, if the offer excluded all retailers, well, no one would be eligble for the rebate. ;)

Well I just thought that only compaq online purchases are honored. Come to think of it, compaq itself is a retailer.

Thanks for the clarifications, Cpaladin.
