Hi guys. I am having a problem with my computer. The display started acting up and showed a yellow grid of lines across my computer. IT went away fir awhile, i played a game on the comp and then it crashed shortly thereafter.

Now there is a grid of thick yellow bars vertically and thin lines horizontally and it has remained there for the last few hours. Most of the functions still work as i could use the internet and open files and such. But now the keyboard is doesnt work :( and the display tends to get worse as the day has gone by.

So far i have done the following to try and fix it:
did a system restore to yesterday
uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers
scanned hard drive for errors
removed vid card and dusted it off with air and reinstalled
updated system bios
restarted countless times

And now i am out of options

MY computer:
amd 2200
ati 9700 pro 128mb
512ram
windows xp

I looked around at the ATI website and it suggested a bad power supply, but i am not sure.

So if anyone has had a similar problem or is knowledgeable in this are, holla at me

colored bars and squares of color? sounds like the vid card. was it refurbished or was it a third party manufacturer that made it, and not ati? get an old vid card or borrow a friends, put it in your comp and see what happens.

the keyboard thing is something that doesnt make sense. maybe you have a problem with overheating inside the comp and your vid card got fried.

I agree with eabu. It is likely your video card. Try a different one...and a different keyboard while you are at it.

You could try the monitor on another computer. To rule it out.

Well after some more trial and error. Looks like it is the video card. The monitor worked fine when connected to my laptop. As for hte keyboard, it appears to have just randomly died at the same time as it wouldnt work on my laptop.

So i am just gunna wait and see if i can try to find a friend with an extra vid card i can try.

The video card came pre installed onto the compter when i bought it.

usually monitor screens (CRT and LCD) either turn on OR dont turn on, not much in between, such as lines on the screen. if you think its the monitor just turn on the monitor and push the buttons on the monitor, for the monitor menu, and if the menu image is normal, the monitor is working fine.
