I have a DVD that i would like to convert to either AVI or MPEG file.

any help is appreciated.

DVD ripping is a very, very challenging process, especially if you want to get it done right and make it look good. The best guides for ripping and converting, etc. on the internet is at http://www.vcdhelp.com. When you're ready to try, that's the place to go.

Download the program Super DVD Ripper (I use version 1.90). You can get a hack code if you are going to copy alot of dvds. Copy the VOB files to your computer (make sure you have minimum 20gb free space). Click the Wizard button, and go to VOB to VCD (that will create a mpeg rather than an avi). Just follow the instructions from there on. If you wanna check out the dvds i ripped, and want a little nudity :P let me know.

you can do svcd if you want a high quality mpeg, but it takes about a day.

well

well i have only one DVD that is kinda old and i want to make a copy of it.

i want to make a good copy of it.

HDD backup

but i want to make a HDD backup, either mpeg or AVI.

stuck

i am stuck now

i converted the dvd with smartripper, it made the files with .VOB, .lst, .idx, .d2v, .ifo extensions.

now what do i have to do?

ok i got it

i downloaded it and tried to make svcd, but it takes hell long.

i tried vcd but it doesn't lets me improve the resolution from 300 something.

any ideas?

this program is taking soooooooooooo long man.

svcd = approx. resolution of the orig. If you want good resolution, let it go for a day....... the regular vcd is good. It only takes a few hours, and has fairly good resolution.
