This is a good deal and a decent laptop.

I did got it already, the model with Celery. Rebates looked OK - mailed them away since this will most likely help with receiving the checks ;)
The 3rd $100 rebate can be either $100 check or 3x$100 cupons for Marriott stay (can be used all at once for 6 day stay) and since I need a hotel for a show in Orlando in March - this is the option I took, making the laptop an EXCEPTIONAL deal for me for only $500 when all is said and done.
The 3rd cupon (with the Marriott option) is inside of the box. I don't think you can use it o top of the 3rd BestBuy cupon.

Bestbuy has one more unadvertised good deal: a "CyberHome" DVD player.
Very neat, slim, small footprint, progressive scan for $35.
(One "-": no "optical out").
It is mulitvoltage (110-240V), multisystem (NTSC/PAL), and by pressing " Menu, 19 " on the remote to get to the secret menu on the screen, it can be hacked in 5 seconds flat to be multiregion (set "region code" to "0") to play foreign DVD which one can get for instance on Ebay for all these "not available in the US" movies and music DVD's which there are tons of - some exceptional and it is beyond me why many are not available in this country (and "locked away" by means of "Region Coding").

And no 1.44MB diskette drive either.

I wonder why they refer to it as 2500 when its only 1.87GHz?

Plus this is only USB 1.1 not 2.0

Plus sales tax, its not all that hot.

Specs:

You can do away with sales tax by pretending to be a buddhist monk or in the process of forming a new religion or something. Its been known to work in the past.
Or have it shipped to Italy, Germay, France or England where considering the rate of US $ this would be practically a steal. But then the rebates would not work. Always a catch...

...what I wanted to say is that Athlon 1.7, 40 GB + CDR and not a "e-machines crap" brand is a fairly good deal to carry away in the case.
BestBuy is a decent company and they are known not to cheat on the rebates like OfficeMax.
5 legit rebates without tricks, pricematches and such is a good number for deal & rebate e-hunters.
USB 2 would have been more than nice, but life is not always fair and a card would have do do it instead.
$300 for $99/night @ Marriott is not bad either.

http://hot-deals.org/text/bestbuy27/bestbuy.pdf possibly good for PNY 256 MB 2700 DDR 333 SODIMM memory for this (or others) laptop.
(SKU 5959037)
The memory is $55 + tax and register prints (till Sat. 2/14) $30 mail-in rebate.

This laptop (and most cheap laptops) comes with 256 MB, 64 of which is given to video so this inexpensive upgrade could be worth it.

One more thing:
Athlon "2500+" is 1.8 GHz, not 1.7 as I said by mistake above.

Why they are referring to it as 2500+ when it is 1.87Ghz

This is sort of a joke in the AMD community. Basically it means that AMD's 1.87Ghz chip (Titled "AMD 2500+") runs about equivalent to Intel's 2.5 Ghz. Hence, Intel has to work harder to get their chips to do what AMD can do at a much lower Ghz, power consumption, and price (AMD doesn't charge nearly what Intel does for a lesser product - debatable of course... I do use and like Intel chipsets - I have several machines at home with both AMD and Intel and I run comparisson benchmarks often. Still AMD is much cheaper in price).

Btw: At home I have an AMD 2500+ Barton chip in one of my PCs and it is easily overclocked to 3200+ (equivalent to an intel 3.2 Ghz). It only takes a few seconds to do in the BIOS, however I have doubts that HP will have this option in the BIOS. Let me know if anyone finds out.

IF Anyone could post the rebate links, id appreciate it, i really need tjhem, i cant find them on the site
